      A group of tourists visited an art exhibition. The admission tickets were $3 for adult and $2 for a child. If the ratio of the number of tourists to the number of dollar collected for admission was 8:21, what fraction of the tourists were children?

        Model
        -------
        Number
        ---------
        1 Adult unit ] 8 parts
        1 Child unit ]

        -------------------
        Amount
        ---------
        3 Adult units ] 21 parts
        2 Child units ]

        1 Adult unit --> 21 - 2 x 8 = 5 parts

        So 1 Child unit --> 8 - 5 = 3 parts

        Child / Total = 3/(3+5) = 3/8

            Mr Tan had some apples and oranges in his shop. 30% of the fruits were oranges. He sold 70 apples and bought another 170 oranges. Then 65% of the fruits were oranges. How many did he have at first?

            Who can help? Thanks!

                is the answer 105?

                let x be the number of oranges.

                170 + x =65%.

                x = 65-170 = 105?

                  dido, I think Mr Tan had 300 apples and oranges at first.
                  Is this p5 or P6 question?

                      Hi,

                      This is P6 question. Sorry, don’t know which section to post.

                      I have no answer for this.

                      Cheers
