Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)

Hi Zappie,
Iβm sorry, but what do you mean by βhow long will the LOA be valid forβ? The school can take in students by DSA, alternatively. But taking the PSLE might be a safer choice, if scoring 255 and above. -
Hi autolycus
thx for the quick reply. we are based overseas and thus have the choice to do PSLE or SPERS. However, ACS( I) do not admit students based on SPERS. We might be sending DS back for PSLE to secure a place at the IB program ( if he managed to enter thru PSLE) Will then apply for Letter of Absence from school as plans to be back are not confirmed. Thus, I would like to know how long can the school hold the place for DS and were there any such LOA cases in the past? -
The school can accept your LOA in theory for as long as it likes because it's an independent school. But it's best to ask for written confirmation and give specific dates.

Hi autolycus
Thanks for yr advice. From your experience, do you know of any LOA cases for the IB program ? -
Hi Zappie...
Need to clarify a few things.
1) When you enter the school in Sec1-Sec4 (what they call Years 1-4), you are NOT entering the IB programme. That is the programme they have for Years 5-6 and is a pre-university qualification equivalent to the A-levels.
2) What you are entering (possibly) is the IP (or Integrated Programme), a course designed to let you enter Years 5-6 without taking O-levels first. However, you can enter a non-IP class at ACS(I) and move to IP if you do well, or take the O-levels at Year 4 and enter the IB programme at year 5.
3) I don't personally know of any LOA cases.

Dear autolycus
Thanks for your help. -
Any offers or calls for interview from ACSI DSA?
My DS applied for DSA and answered the HAST, but no news from ACSI so far
-
Sorry, maybe a dumb question here. ACSI and ACS(baker), which thread did they mention the difference?
-
Hi Autolycus,
My son is from ACS(P) GEP and applied for DSA at ACSI.
From my understanding, only 10 COs were given out to the ACS GEP boys last year as the previous principal may have been frustrated by the low take-up rate in 2009 when most of the GEP boys were offered. With a new head at the helm, any idea if there is a change in thinking this year. Getting quite nervous already as there has not been any news at all. Last year, a letter was sent out to the GEP boys asking if they would accept a place in ACSI if offered, but so far there is no letter in sight this year.
Hopefully, you are able to provide some "comforting and wise words" for the anxious ACS GEP parents.
Thanks. -
Clayman: The outlook is generally positive, but there are no public details. The most recent interaction between the primary schools and secondary schools in the ACS family was on Friday 12 August.
