hi, i hope i get the student no. correct, think it is between 6 to 8 (will ask my friend again). different centre under different mgt, the katong one has very good feedback from most parents, heard the pasir ris one not as good. i am interested but simply can't afford the fees lah 😄

Hi, at the recommendation of friend, we enrolled our elder son in MRC. He started off in Pasir Ris cos it is near to our place and after class in the morning he can go back to my mum's nearby. But after 1 term, we decided to switch him to Katong. More troublesome due to the distance but it is worthwhile. Not only the quality of staff, but the commitment of the boss there impressed us very much. My son is attending normal lessons in the morning, and in order to optimise his learning time, we enrolled him in extra lessons (enrichment) in the afternoon. In between, the teachers buy lunch for him, eat, rest and start afternoon classes. We feel very at ease putting him there.

wow seems the katong branch is really quite good in terms of teacher quality, attention and care for the students. i just saw a mum with a toddler in a sling together with an older girl wearing 3Q uniform taking the train this morning. i wonder if that's my fren's fren who lugs her younger son along with the long journey to katong everyday! :!: but i guess all parents are the same - we all want the best for our children and some of us are more willing to go the extra mile no matter how difficult, challenging or inconvenient

That's why despite the fact that there is a childcare centre at my wife's workplace, and the cost is only a fraction (plus, it is full day care), we decided to switch him from the childcare centre to MRC. He has been with the childcare since N2, and he is now in K2.

            hi marvic

just curious, how much r the monthly/term fees for just the 3hr class? and how much if add the enrichment classes in the afternoon? when u said your son stay back in the afternoon, is it for everyday or for certain days only? n what time does he leave the school after the enrichment classes? based on your description, sound like the teachers have to purposely buy lunch from elsewhere and not provided in school like a childcare centre.

would appreciate if u can clarify and sorry for the many questions. i believe many parents who are considering the school would appreciate the info too. thanks!

Sorry I can't remember exactly the fees. For the enrichment classes, it is based on per subject per month basis. You may like to go down to enquire.

The good thing about MRC Katong is, there is a canteen in the area because the whole place was converted from the ex-Tg Katong Technical School. So the teachers will buy the lunch there for all the kids who stay back for afternoon classes. Bear in mind, this is a school, not a childcare center so our expectation must be realistic. My son's case, he stays back for 4 days. One of the days, we did not enrol any class for him or it will be Arts & Crafts. Give him a break lah.

Having said this, please let me clarify that we transferred him from Pasir Ris not because Pasir Ris is bad. The staff there are good also. Just that, they do not have such afternoon classes so does not cater to our needs as well as Katong.

Do you feel that the premise is very small and dark and too serious-looking? No proper playground at all... Are these some of your concerns when you first saw the premise?

I am not sure how you classify a place as small. But to me I find it big for a pre-school centre. Definitely bigger than many centres I have seen, for example the PAP which you can find under the void deck. Can you share with us which other centres you visited which are considered big? Maybe I go and take a look.

hi marvic. Just found this thread. Was surprised to hear from u that Pasir Ris don't have additional enrichment classes in the afternoon. I just chat with Dawn (i think is principal) and she told me there is several enrichment classes in the afternoon.

Btw, have you explored MRC@Tampines Central CC? Heard anything abt it? I was shocked to find out the wide range of the school fee of 3Q junior btw Pasir Ris and Tampines Central. For the same 10 weeks course, former charge $1159 and latter $270!! Any comment on this?
                      Thanks.
