LCentral Discussion

Any feedback on Lcentral at Marine Parade? Read a lot of good review on Lcentral but I’m quite sure it’s the teachers that make the difference. Please share any good teachers at Lcentral @ Marine Parade? Thanks

Hihi,
Just brought my DD (3+) to LC @ JE for assessment last Sat and she is to be placed in the Foundations class. The teacher basically asked her to name the pictures, which she can. But she cannot name all 26 alphabets in lower case and only can do 1st sound of limited letters.
The teacher showed her the workbook, which looks really easily. I understand that she will be doing colouring, sound and movement and stuff, which I supposed will be similar to what she learns in her pre-nursery now? Then what is the point of going for such enrichment classes?
I have signed her up for her trial this Sun. -
Hi ZuEn,
Saw your post ... just kp here abit. Hope you dun mind.
I quite like Lcentral is because of their Liftoff course bcos it is really a very comprehension program. I did scan through their Foundation and Laundpad worksheets before and I agreed that they look easy. If your DD is currently learning all these at her pre-nursery class, then maybe you can bring her for another assessment after she is more familiar with the sounds and letters. Maybe she can join Launchpad or Liftoff class. My DD was with Zoo-phonics for a year before joining Icreative/Lcentral. In terms of pricing, I think Zoo phonics is cheaper by a 100 bucks. -
Pigrabbit,
Yup, ZP is much cheaper and I attempted to sign her up at the JW branch but the admin was super unfriendly, pissing me off with their rigid rules, ending in me yelling at the admin and I swear that I am not going back. Lol.
I am actually considering between LC and ICR. I have a bigger interest in LC as it is cheaper than ICR and I heard better reviews on LC when it comes to their more advance classes.
I am one gan cheong parent who is trying to start DD earlier to give her a better foundation yet heartache over $$ not well-spent.

Ya, Lcentral's advance classes are really good I must say. Hmm, maybe you can feedback to their head office about their attitude. From what I observed so far, Lcentral is quite customer service oriented. The pple at Woodlands branch are friendly if you do not mind the distance. My friend was with Marine Parade branch before and didnt hear any complaints.
Oh, how much is ICR now? That time when my DD joined ICR, it was much cheaper than Lcentral. Like you, I prefer to spend my $$ more worthwhile and also gan cheong, thus I switched to Lcentral cos DD can start directly at Liftoff stage. -
Hi ZuEn
ZP-I agreed tat the admin staff kinda unfriendly, tat’s why this is one of my reason of withdrawing. My DS1 has been there for half a year only (when he was 4 1/2yo). But I would say not bad, cos it really helps in remembering. One of my friend says is a bit slow, took one year to teach all the alphabets.
May I suggest to you to try the leap frog, "the letter factory", very good too. My 2 1/2yo DS2 knows most of the sound of the alphabets thru this DVD. Can be borrowed from the library.
I’m too a gan cheong parent and I understand that the foundation and launchpad books look very simple. For me, I wouldn’t mind if mine starts at the foundation level (if $$$$ allows) at 3yo+ to have a good foundation, they will progress her if yr child can proceed to the next level, if the class ratio is small, tink is really worth it compared to eg. ZP. I believe, ZP at tat level still doing alphabets too and they are more rigid in progressing. My DS1 (6yo) started in Jan this yr in PFS class, he learns alot from there, compo, compre, grammar, listening compre, etc… -
Pigrabbit,
Feedback to ZP’s head office about the admin’s attitude? I cant be bothered. Especially when I already gave up on ZP after that unpleasant experience.
The admin staff at both LC and ICR @ JE are both plenty much ok, sympathetic towards parents with clingy kids (read: me). Now, I am more worried about whether the Foundation classes are to easy and I am throwing about good $$. But I guessed if it gives DD a good foundation then it os probably the way to go.
LC charges about $40 for a weekend lesson. ICR charges about $50. -
GSK,
I have that fridge magnet thing from leapfrog but didnt help much.
Maybe I should look at some DVDs. The letter factory. I go find. Thanks.
The class that DD is joining is newly opened. She will be the 3rd kid and I supposed the teacher will have lots of time to concentrate on 3 kids.
I am bringing her for the trial this Sun and I am praying that she will like the teacher. I think her enjoying the class is the most impt. -
Leap frog - Hee hee, no problem, the KS parent here recommended to me, so now I recommended to you. I tink it does help.
3 kids - That’s good.
Yup, most importantly she enjoys and want to go to class, otherwise will be a big headache. -
GSK,
Yup. I just signed her up for ballet and she loves it. Such a breeze to bring her for her ballet class. No fuss, no tears.
Mummies, I read about the $30 discount for referral.
That referral must be from the same branch? I have a friend whose kid is in LC and am thinking of asking for her to refer. But her kid is in a different branch.
