so far (1mth), the very young teacher is able to inspire ds2 and get his attention for that 30min.

Let me guess, it’s at BB CC? Is the teacher using Alfred’s piano books and numbers to teach? That was what they told me when I enquired about piano lessons few years ago. I wasn’t very comfortable with the method.

Btw, what age did your kids go on to one-to-one? I'm wondering if my DD is ready for individual lessons yet. She was fine the first lesson, but got restless in the second. Hmm...

My girl started near 4 years old. Hmm, she has the attention of regular 4-year-old then. Once, she even fell off the bench while playing... Don't ask me how she did it cos I wasn't in the room. But yes, she was ready at that age and progressed well under her teacher. So, relax and give your daughter and the teacher some time.

no no...BB CC too expensive! :yikes: we went to another branch. charging $20+ cheaper for same duration and timeslot! (hm...maybe teacher different qualifications...?)
we are using Bastien Piano Basics.
you mean not comfortable with numbers (you mean fingering numbers)? my ds2 already learnt location of ABCD in his kindergarten, so the teacher teach using ABCD (i guess cos ds2 read out ABCD during his home practice).

Wow, I’m amazed at how young some of your children start 1-to-1 lessons! 3 years old?!


MummyThreeStreams, looks like your music teacher can structure the lesson well for a young student.

I might have to keep to the group lesson or look for an alternative 1-to-1 teacher if things don’t improve.

Oh, to reply Chamonix, no, my DD’s not with Cristofori, but i think the teacher’s using Alfred’s books too. I’m not very comfortable with teaching playing using numbers cos I’m afraid it’ll make the child lazy or afraid to read notes in future.

Oh really? I wasn't aware about the charges, only knew that their books were more expensive than other places.

Then he should be on the right track. To help him progress better, get him to play and sing the notes in solfege too.

I share the same thoughts too. Besides, the kids will have to re-adapt themselves to notes later on.

thanks! oo...i learn something new today...solfege. i learn together with him too as i only know how to sight read a little and mainly use my right hand to play by the ear. we just did flash cards this morning on treble clef notes C to G. he needs to work on his rhythm though.
