Just curious.. did any of you read any of Gay's postings/blog in forums..?

Yes I hv read it yesterday..very interesting but it makes my blood boils on reading his comments on Singaorean women..and insults on fellow singaporeans.. plus using words like autistic.

I think the main reason he is in trouble is because of his racist remarks.

Should we let this kind of person scott free?

MediaCorp censors segment of Penny Low looking down at her HP in replay of National Day Parade

State-owned broadcaster MediaCorp has censored the embarrassing segment on PAP MP Penny Low looking down at her handphone when the National anthem was sung in a replay of the National Day rally yesterday.

Ms Penny Low was forced to give a half-baked public apology following an outcry over her moment of inattention which was captured and widely circulated on the internet.

In the original video shown β€˜live’ on 9 August 2011, Ms Low was seen looking down at her handphone as the National anthem was being sung:

I'm just curious for those who speak up for him, directly or indirectly, were they exposed to the whole facts before commenting?

I feel that for his wife's case, she is just voicing her opinion, so one is free to disagree but no need to resort to \"punish\" her bcoz of a remark..

In a way, same for the Gay, but.. his case is a bit different.. expression of opinion part is okay.. but somehow he seems to be a threat to national security, and somemore he is in a teaching position. Given his \"beliefs/values\", I feel that he is indeed not fit to be a teacher.

Action taken against him? On WHAT basis??

I feel that actions should not be taken against him for voicing of opinion, in the good spirit of freedom of expression.

But for the Gay whose beliefs and values are exposed.. this type of values seems like anti-nation.. it is against the country.. different in nature to common opinions on the internet.. It's now up to the authorities to determine whether actions need to be taken..

Action taken against him? On WHAT basis?? For speaking his mind? For bruising the egos of thin-skinned Singaporeans?

All you anti-estab Singaporeans, this REALLY what you want, some arbitrary criteria for taking disciplinary actions? Don't complain the next time the gahmen sacks a civil servant for posting anti-gahmen comments. Intimidation!! No freedom of speech!! Blah Blah.....

Here's the report that the respective authorities acted quickly on their own when they read the FB comments by the original person who made the post:

                    http://news.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews/Singapore/Story/A1Story20110815-294657.html

I suppose the unfortunate thing for this couple is they both work in the \"government\" sector and the idea was to be on the government's side and not the people's side but they got carried away. They were supposed to gain brownie points. They might be facing disciplinarian action not because of pressure from people but for misrepresenting the view of how the government would argue their case for the incident.

As for freedom of speech, depends on which way you look at it, the Singaporeans are having the freedom of speech to express that they do not want to be called moronic as a nation. I do not think we have reached a point where we need to promote freedom of speech using a foreigner to speak for our cause. Also, why is it necessary to make anti-government comments with freedom of speech, is that a definition? If the communication is strengthened, a good feedback channel is so much better than using anti-government tactics, afterall collectively we voted for them, didn't we? For a government that respects its people, it will get the loyalty of its people and its respect in return and I believe this is part of a good value system. It's a win-win... No? :? I am pretty certain more would love SG even more now than if this was left unattended. It can potentially allow anyone to mud-sling at us irrationally. Borrowing part of Ms Penny Low's famous phrase, \"unite, not divide\".

Perhaps I sound idealistic  but I believe in investing in positive energy.
