Criteria for a Good Childcare Centre
-
the teacher told me today… the other twins is very naughty today, by that she meant he was walking around exploring at things etc.
I personally NEVER use negative words like naughty boy, mischevious etc. I am going to write down in coms book and share with the teacher not to use those words on him again. I not very demanding right? -
NO! You're definitely not demanding, JHJC!
A teacher should be give positive encouragements lah..
I can understand how you feel, dear... :hugs: -
Hi,
I think I have read somewhere in the forum that someone highlighted that a CC that is granted 24mths license is better than those 12 mths one? Can someone shed some light on this for me? Thanks. -
apple79:
Logically speaking yes.Hi,
I think I have read somewhere in the forum that someone highlighted that a CC that is granted 24mths license is better than those 12 mths one? Can someone shed some light on this for me? Thanks.
Criterias for 24mth license include, hygiene, physical environment, curriculum, learning materials, teachers' qualifications and teacher student ratio. Things that are mainly quantifiable. So if a centre meets all these criterias on paper, then it will be awarded 24mths license. Based on that, one can assume that such a centre will be better.
Practically speaking, a centre with 12mths license may not be a bad centre as most centres that are newly established be it by experienced operators or newbies, will be accorded only a max of 12mths license.
But avoid centres with only 6mths license as MCYS usually do not issue only 6mths unless the centre is really lacking in key areas like teacher's qualifications or hygiene.
At the end of the day, do not base solely on a piece of paper to make your decision. It can be a part of your decision making but the main deciding factor should be what you get to see and the response of the people that you speak to at the centre and of course the kind of feedback or comments that you get from the people with children who are there already. But bear in mind, every parent has a different expectation so what might be good for one may not be good for another. -
Hi thanks for your reply.
I was looking at a CC that a mummy posted that its good and I checked it out online and went past the CC ytd to look from the outside (its already closed). It seems like a nice place. However, I was surprised to read from MCYS website that its licence is only 12 mths. and looking at its licence history, there are even 6 mths licence before although its mainly 12 mths.
And I look at those CC that is much cheaper, their rating is 24 mths. -

Hi everyone,
New here to your forum! I'm re-locating to Singapore really soon and we need to find schools for my preschooler.
Any recommendations or tips? Would like a good mix of kids of different background.. -
welcome to Singapore JodieFoster
There are a number of good preschools that the mummies and daddy over here recommends. One important factor is which part of the island you are staying and what are the things you look for in a preschool.
There are several treads discussing the various preschools. Parents also leave their comments on various preschools in the portal listing section.

Generally, I will look for a location near where I stay or work then zoom down on other criteriors (e.g. curriculum, environment, etc )
Here are some articles with tips on looking for a childcare

Anyone have any feedback & review for Yuquan preschool?
hi, I have visited Yuquan pre-school myself and I must say, the principal is a very good marketing person. She will show us the works of their students in Chinese (except that she always shows the works of one particular student). Basically, the school is strong in Mandarin. They will require their children to memorise 三字经, 成语, 彦语 etc as the principal said that it's good for children to memorise these idioms even if they don't know the true meaning cos when they reach primary level, they will be bogged down by more homework, projects, CCAs and will not have time to memorise these idioms. Once memorised, they will be able to utilise them in compositions with much ease.
However, you need to see for yourself their English standard and also that the cc is in CBD area so you need to pay for ERP twice a day if you pick them up youselves as they do not offer transport services. -
Hi Lucky,
I had spoken to the Principal (Yuquan) & she suggested me to put my child in the childcare so that can learn good strong English, Chinese Maths & Science.
I also doubt how good is thier English Language especially they are like in a chinese environment.
Any particular questions that I should ask when I'm heading down the Yuquan Language & Preschool? Maybe I should ask them show me how good is thier English Language. Agreed with you thier marketing strategy very strong, keep suggesting until I almost blur.
