actually, just thinking aloud, the FT / PR should be given priority (ahead of every citizen) since they are the ready-made babies that we singaporeans have not been able to produce, and they are here to help rejuvenate the aging population, to lessen the burden on our kids in the future to support old population

May not be true. Based on the extremely limited cases I see, couples come here with 1 or 2 young children, and then proceed to bring their parents over here. So we may end up with 4 adults and only 1 child. How to rejuvenate aging population like that?

Govt welcome Chinese young couples to come here, take up citizenship and procreate. But not all young couples will give birth to 2 or more. The reason is they have to work and so bring their parents over to help look after.
After some bonding with their Singaporean neighbours and feeling the pinch of high standards of living, they may just stop at 1.
Sometimes, the young couple brings over both sets of parents (maternal and paternal) bcos the young couple themselves are only children...it doesn't make sense nor fair (to couple) that they have to leave either set of parents behind. So, it's 6 adults and 1 child.

Best is Citizen with foreign spouse… good way to increase the population… The local parents can help to look after the kids… or at most add 2 more foreigner instead of 4 aged foreigners…

Some pple suggested removing P2B.. I kena support this..

Instead of having P2B, juts give them extra 2 slips for PV, extra 2 slips for Clans associations GRLs etc.. More fair isn't it? And they still get their \"priority\" in the form of extra ballot slips.

I'll support removing P2B as well if we also remove P2A. Just give people in P2A 4 slips of paper. Why should people in P2B suffer the blunt of the changes?

Even more fair isn't it?

Then let's go to the extreme..remove phase 1 too and give 8 slips of papers to those with siblings in the school. All suffer together..8)

I don’t really know how the school manage the registration of primary one. Isnt it wonderful and less stressful if the school vacancy be given to Singaporean first?

The school doesn't manage P1 registration. It's MOE.
There are MANY Singaporeans now...as well as newly converted ones. Without the phases in place, it will be more stressful.

There has been a lot of debates over the fairness of the P1 registeration process. Parents have been complaining why there is such phase for old boys and old girls. It would be great if we drop all the phases of registeration and adopt entrance exams process, just like the Japanese education system. Earlier, ex-MM Lee had acknowledged that admission to primary school was based on parents’ social class, not merit. It should be done by merit. The entrance exams should also test the parents/ guidances to be tested. I think this is important. It shows the ability the parents can coach their children. Sometimes, some of you may think are unfair, some schools do prefer to get their old boys or girls’ young generation over the new ones. Because the parents may have brought up their youngs in the similar environment as they were before. Just look at the affliated secondary schools.

Entrance exams are supposed to make it equal, but seriously, what’s going to happen. Parents are going to go crazy over preparing for the mini-PSLE, kids who may not be ready are going to be super stressed into performing. Schools catering to this exam will sprout like mushrooms all over the island.

This is not an equalizer, I think it’ll make it even more unequal. Reason being that most of the kids (there must be exceptions) going into the hottest schools are the ones who have parents who have the means and energy to provide preschool support.

I’m paying a lot to ensure my kids get solid grounding, so yes, this mode should work for me. But I will still think this is unfair.

At the end of the day, i don’t think there is, and will be any fair means. Full ballot - will work against parents who are somehow just born without the luck element. Closest stay - will work against those who may not be able to afford the higher prices commanded.
