      Hey starlight1968sg and verykiasu2010 – Motel 268 and 168 are budget motels

not too bad – clean and all that

but are you going with your family?
if you are, maybe you should try Motel 268 - it’s more business service apartment style - more spacious

it’s not THAT near the bund, but the taxis are quite cheap

or i’d recommend to splurge a lil’ more on a nicer hotel - esp if you have little ones

anyways, don’t forget to try to xiaolongbaos at chenghuangmiao

if you’re going with family – xintiandi is very nice and lux to bring DD and/or DS around

can’t wait to bring DD to shanghai disney when they open

      have fun!!

A shanghai friend's mum (she's in travel business) booked this hotel 上海老饭店 for us in 2003, located in Yuyuan, walking distance to the bund. Recommended my sis & mum there in 2008, they liked it too.

Price very reasonable, as the hotel is right in the middle of old Shanghai, easy to get cabs and buses.

Your choice is perfect, Shanghai is the most beautiful place to travel. There are number of hidden treasure you can find in Shanghai. But bring the warm cloths along with you. There is no issue about the food. There are many restaurants are available in Shanghai which provide the better food.

Shanghai is best and cool place to travel in vacations. This is cool place therefore there is need to bring some warm cloths which can protect you from cold climate. December is the best time to visit Shanghai. There are number of restaurants who provide all types of food. Therefore don’t care about it.

Shanghai can b very very cold in Nov + December. Winter clothing is absolutely a must for little ones. Last year, I brought my son to Shanghai. It was freezing. One morning, I went out shopping without my thermos (bc we were boarding the plane in the evening so I thought it would be cumbersome to wear my themos beneath my layers of clothing and had to remove them in the plane), and it was freezing for me. Thus lesson learnt is thermal wear is very important.

If you are gg in Nov/Dec, you might just get the basic thermal / winter wear in S’pore and then shop in Shanghai cos thermals / winter wear is definitely cheaper in Shanghai. Quality of also better. I highly recommend Uniqlo. Their thermals are nice and good.

                Hope these help

As for hotels, 168 and 268 are good and affordable. You might want to find out which hotels are newly open and go for the ones that are newly open … its much cleaner.

Shanghai quite easy to travel with their trains so as long as you stay in a hotel that is accesible by train, its good enough.

Otherwise, taxi is also cheap. But in Shanghai, be prepare to SNATCH for taxi as they do not have a queuing system.

Best if you could get a local driver to drive you around for the few days u are there … its also quite an affordable option
