oh yes, Tr's day gifts. have to get the boys to start writing and drawing their cards soon!
don't worry too much LKVM. last time, what me and my colleagues appreciated most was the meaningful handmade cards.
a lot of the ornaments got lost or spoilt with time. but those gifts that are really meaningful are either those really practical gifts like red pens, or simply designed cards in which they wrote me poems and songs they composed themselves. many of the girls are able to write very long paragraphs, almost like a long love letter. and those touched me deeply.
of course i don't expect my sons to do that at their age now cos my students were much older, but i suppose drawing something specific abt their teachers' interaction with them or writing a heartfelt note should be similar in thought?
anyway, just thought i'd write down some ideas in case anyone needs some inspiration
sometimes it need not even be Teacher's Day. I remember classes making their class tee and gave me one class tee with my name printed on it. i wore that tee with them and treasured it a lot too, cos it made me feel so much one of them.
some other ideas that brought smiles:
1. a simple sunflower, with a note that said: you brighten up my day, and a handmade card with the whole class signing it with funny messages
2. a photo montage or album compiling all the events and fun times we had in class
3. a bunch of red pens. with super hilarious card saying things like: \"thank you for all the red marks in my tests, Mrs xxxx, it made me study much harder\". and \"you must have used up this many pens while marking our class' test papers!\"
4. my colleague received a 10kg bag of rice because he taught them about the rice trade (history). the whole staff room laughed like mad with him. i bet that was really memorable for him!
5. a tin of gourmet coffee or hot chocolate: \"you warmed me up with your smile and cheerfulness everyday.\" or \"you must have had sleepless nights worrying about our test results, here's some coffee to perk your day up!\"
6. some home made goodies or home baked stuff. lovingly prepared.
or can buy those cookies or small cake to decorate with a personal message
7. a craft that the child made himself. the teacher can see the effort put in and will deeply appreciate it.
8. anything that shows that the child or parent had remembered something fondly.
eg, if the teacher had mentioned a particular movie or used it in his lesson before, and you give something related to that and in the card mention how much you enjoyed that lesson and how much it helped you. the tr will be very touched that you remembered.
eg if the teacher is pregnant and you give something related to showing your concern for the pregnancy or something for the coming baby, that is also showing that it is a specific gift you are giving to her and not some general mass giving exercise.
something like that?
i'm very thankful for my sons' trs. they have been wonderful... so that's why i am racking my brains now. i'll definitely be using one of these above suggestions, just have not decided which one.
