This happened during my JC days.
Starting from a few weeks before the final exam through the last paper, the JC would open its reading room and classrooms for students to study & prepare for exam. The student council was responsible to maintain orderliness, and close up the rooms at 10pm each night. They also organized packet dinners and supper for us.
Boys being boys, we were playful. Our dinner and supper breaks were longer than necessary. We would stayed outside the reading room for some games of carom before going back to study.
It was lots of fun studying together then. Luckily it also ended well for us. -

On the last night, we would play a game called \"ghost fire\". After midnight, each newbie will be led to a different secluded corner of the school. They would have to stay by themselves in their individual assigned corner, in total darkness, less a lighted candle. They must protect the lighted candle as they were not given any matches, if the flame went out, they would really be in total darkness.
So nothing scary ever happened??
no. The only \"scary\" incident happened to one of the ya-ya like papaya newbie. Singing loudly to keep calm yet denied that he was scared. So the senior minding him decided to play a prank on. The newbie was seated in the stair well facing a corner of the wall. The senior took off his white shirt, and made some foot steps sound. When the newbie turned to look, he threw his white shirt down the stair well. -
Wah, tankee, your memory is really something! :salute:

My guess you came from an all boy's school. This happened during my Secondary School days.
Every year, our CCA (known as ECA then) group would held an Orientation Camp in school for the newbies (sec 1).
On the last night, we would play a game called \"ghost fire\". After midnight, each newbie was led to a different secluded corner of the school. They would have to stay by themselves in their individual assigned corner, in total darkness, less a lighted candle. They must protect the lighted candle as they were not given any matches, if the flame went out, they would really be in total darkness.
Unknown to them, for safety reason, each of them would be accompanied by a senior hidden away from their view.
some were nervous, started singing to boost confident. some dropped a few tears. some fell asleep
but all emerged from the game, no longer afraid of darkness. As they realized there is nothing to be afraid of in the dark, the only frightening things are what they imagined themselves. -
Giving all sorts of excuse to avoid PE during pri sch, then sitting on the steps leading to the stage to read.
Sneaking out of sch compound to the nearby HDB flat to buy homemade curry puffs.
Throwing away unread notes from I dunno who left on my sch bag.
Standing up to one CL teacher who ordered the class to buy an assessment book meant for ‘N’ lvls. -
Playing Zero-Point at recess time…
Everybody squatting in a row by the drain to brush teeth…
Catching grasshoppers in school field…
Choosing your own prizes from a table full of stationery and books for prize-giving day. Remember those very squarish box-like pencil cases with lots of different compartments for erasers, sharpeners etc? I loved those ~ -
