Mary, Jonatha and David shared a sum of money. The total amount of money received by Jonathan was 2/3 the amount received by David. Mary received twice as much as what Jonathan and David received. After Mary had given $48 to Jonathan and $27 to David, and Jonathan gave $3 to David. At the end 3 of them had the same amount of money. Find the difference between the amount of money that Jonathan and Mary had at first

Find the difference between the amount of money that Jonathan and Mary had at first
At first
J [-][-] (2u)
D[-][-][-] (3u)
M[-][-][-][-][-][-][-][-][-][-] (10u)
J [-][-] (2u) + 48 - 3
D[-][-][-] (3u) + 27 + 3
M[-][-][-][-][-][-][-][-][-][-] (10u) - 48 - 27
3u + 27 + 3 -----> 2u + 48 - 3
1u -----> 15
Difference between the amount of money that Marie and Jonathan had at first = 8u = 8 * 15 = $ 120 (Ans) -
Hi
Please assist on the following:
Mrs Lim bought a luggage, a jacket and a pair of shoes. The jacket and the pair of shoes cost $232.10. The luggage and the jacket cost $560.60. The luggage cost 4 times as much as the pair of shoes. How much more did the luggage cost than the jacket?
Thanks. -
Cost of luggage - cost of shoes = $560.60-$232.10 =$328.50
Since cost of luggage is 4x cost of shoes,
luggage -> 4 units
shoes -> 1 unit
difference -> 3 units
3 units = $328.50
1 unit = $109.50
Shoes cost $109.50
Jacket costs $232.10 - $109.50 = $122.60
luggage costs $109.5 x 4 = $438
diff of cost bet jacket n luggage = $315.40 -

Hi,
Need help to solve the following Math questions. Many thanks in advance.
The ratio of the number of stalks of carnation to the number of stalks of roses in a floral shop was 5:2. Each stalk of carnation costs $4, while each stalk of rose costs $6. The florist would be able to collect $4800 from the sale pf all his roses and carnations.
(a)How many stalks of roses were there?
(b)After selliong some roses, the ratio of carnations to roses became 10:1. How many stalk of roses were sold?
The table below shows the pricing of 3 types of tickets.
Ferry-$30 Train-$20 Bus-$10
The ratio of the number of ferry tickets sold to the number of train tickets sold was 5:6. The ratio of the number of train tickets sold to the number of bus tickets sold was 4:11. The amount of money collected from the sale of bus tickets was $270 more than the amount of money collected from the sale of ferry tickets. How much more money was collected from the sale of ferry tickets than the train tickets? -

Q1.
carnation : roses (qty) = 5:2
carnation : roses (value) = 5x4: 2x6 = 20: 12 = 5u : 3u
Total 8u = $4800, 1u = $600
Number of carnation stalks = 5 x 600/4 = 750
Number of roses stalks = 3 x 600/6 = 300
After selling some roses,
carnation : roses (qty) = 10 : 1 = 750 : 75
Roses sold = 300 - 75 = 225 stalks.
Q2. use the same approach .. find the ratio for quantity, and then ratio for value...
Ferry tickets : Train tickets = 5 : 6
Train tickets : Bus tickets = 4 : 11
Ferry Tickets : Train Tickets : Bus Tickets = 10 : 12 : 33
Ferry Tickets : Train Tickets : Bus Tickets, in value
= 10x3 : 12x2 : 33x1
= 30 : 24 : 33
= 10u : 8u : 11u ... should be able to complete the solution from here
