All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Hi all, just another question.. Am I too late to apply for PV if I need to register for P1 next year (P1 in 2011)?


Coz from what I see from MOE, I'm supposed to start PV no later than July 2009 and clock at least 40hrs b4 June 2010 to qualify. But when I asked the school, they told me I was still in time for the PV? :?

It varies from schcol to school, but its getting v late in the day already.

ya, it varies from school to school. You are definitely too late for NYPS & TNS.

The only concern is whether you can clock in enough hours before registration starts. So if you get accepted, do check exactly what and when and how often you will be asked to PV. If they are vague, insist politely and check back if they say they need time to confirm. Once you get a clear answer, you can gauge for yourself whether you can meet the deadline.

Hi, i applied for PV at NYP for the 2011 P1 registration. They told me that the deadline for informing whether you’re successful or not has been extended from Sept to Dec 2009 due to high number of applicants. Can i check if anyone else has applied and has been informed to go for interview already?

I have a few questions here, pls help to clarify:

My boy is Yr2005.
2012 : P1 start school
2011 : P1 registration
2010-2011 : submit application and perform PV

1.when suggesting to call up school to check on the opening application for PV, what should ask beside checking on opening date for PV?

2.PV application for Yr2011 registration on 1st Jul to 30th Jun 2010 for most schools? Rite?

3.When is the best time to call schools for PV application? And
should I send in my letter seeking for PV now and call school for PV application at the same time? Or should I just wait for opening for PV application from School?

4.I am resiting at Taman Jurong. I am looking at:

Jurong Primary (>2km)
Pricess Elizabeth Pri (>2km)
Rulang Pri (<2km)
Shuqun Pri (<2km>2km)
Fuhua (<2km>3km)
Keming (>3km)

My parents at Jurong East:
Jurong Primary (<2km)
Princess Elizabeth Pri (<2km)
Yuhua (<1km)
Fuhua (<2km>3km)
Keming (>3km)

Any mummies have experienced with the above schools to share some tips of how to get in as PV? Any suggestions on how to get selected? Anyone know what sorts of skill they are looking for?

5.I need to gauge what is the chance: if I am a PV and staying out of 1km from Rulang Pri and Shuqun Pri? If I cant get in at phase 2B, do I still stand a chance at phase 2c?

6.What is my chance if I am not a PV, but apply with my parents’ address (<2km) to Jurong Primary and Princess E. Pri? If I cant get in at phase 2B, do I still stand a chance at phase 2c?

7.Do I need to apply PV for Yuhua, Keming and Fuhua?

8.Being KS, should I also send PV letter to Xingnam and West Grove?

9.Long before the registration must I submit the grandparents’ addy for MOE statutory declaration?

10.I am considering a few schools outside Jurong East and Jurong West. Are Qifa and Keming a good choice?

11.Anyone has experienced with Lakeside Pri school? It is the only school that is within 1km from my house. Noticed it has 100% take up rate in 2009. Does it mean I can consider this school? I could not find much information about this school.

In fact, I prefer a school that is at mid range level eg. Jurong Pri, as I do not want my kid to have too much pressure and too many homework to do. But surrounding my area, I cannot any such school!
