I am curious to know, for maths qns, your kids usually use algebra tp solve or model ?.. My ds said he likes to use algebra to solve unless the qn stated to use model⦠But he said they will not be asked to use only a particular method to solve such as model. Is tt true?

So far, my ds has been using more algebra than model and his teacher says it's fine. So I think it's true can use any method so long as it leads to the correct answer. I've also attended the math workshop for parents - the guy there also said no need to use one particular method - he said it's better to use one method to do and use another method to check. If answers by using the 2 different methods the same, then likely answer is correct. My ds also prefers to use algebra, he said it's faster.

some yrs ago, there was already parents writing in to MOE clarifying abt the above,
ie. can the pupils use other methods such as algebra to solve those maths Q...
and MOE had replied that any mathematical methods which are logical are accepted.....( of coz including algebra)
i had reposted MOE's reply somewhere in this forum...
but can't remember in which thread......need to dig it out..... -
Is there any purpose for the prelim other than as a warm up to PSLE? Will the secondary school consider the prelim results as reference if the child happen to miss all or partial of the PSLE exams for whatever reasons?
-
Huh! miss out the PSLE exam! Why? What reason?
