      Monster Mummy:

      Hi,

I would like if those foreigners children taken up the place in the public school. SO does it mean that their next sibling in line will join the phase 1 in the coming year.

their subsequent children will be eligible for phase 1 if and only if they become PR or Citizen.

children of foreigners are only eligible for phase 3

Really ??? I thought foreigners can go for phase 1 also.

Pls check out MOE website, I think it's stated very clearly in the eligibility column http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/phases/

If based on birth rate(Singaporean vs Singaporean), I don't forsee school like acsj, Chua cho Kang primary, sji will need to ballot in phase 2c....

Somehow, some seats are taken up from unexpected foreigners turn PR and they do pv, church/clan/grassroot(?) that occupy the places.

Birth rate in 2005 is not that high, you know....

            Agree with you. :goodpost:
Putting things into perspective; Ultimately, the biggest 'competition' that we Singaporean parents are facing is still our fellow Singaporean parents. I pity MOE, there is really no way it can please us all.

            zeemimi:

These foreigners may not necessarily be residing in Spore. Many of them travel from JB to Spore on weekdays and travel back in the evenings. Others are mostly rich Indonesians (or other nationalities) who live with their relatives / friends in Singapore. They pay a higher rate of school fees and do not have Edusave.

MOE is not obliged to provide places for foreigners. They just take what is left.

The schools left in Phase 3 are usually not very popular with Singaporeans. Hence the competition element with regards to registration is minimal. Of course they will compete with our kids in terms of academic pursuits. But I believe such competition is healthy and inevitable. We cannot shelter our kids very much.

erm .... please don't :spank: me for this. I'm just trying to offer an alternative and balanced view.

              Hi,

If I am not wrong, birth rate that year 2005 is also considered low.

I don't know about CCK Pri, but ACSJ and SJI all have a long history, strong alumni and desirable affiliation to sec schs. The number of private housing sprouting around these schools could also account for their popularity. With SJI Sec going IP, there is no surprise more parents are interested in SJI.

Schools have also reduced intake in order to go single session. However, new schools have also been set up.

The number of P1 vacancies will always be higher than the birth rate and will certainly have a comfortable buffer for PRs. But there is really little control over the popularity of schools which is shaped by one's perspective.

Hence the increase in foreigners / PRs in Spore is not the only reason for balloting in schools. And we certainly cannot use birth rate to predict if balloting is needed in schools. There is no direct nor obvious corelation.

I'm not from MOE by the way. Just feel that we should see things in perspective.

I don't have the statistics, but i just feel there seems to be more 2005 boys than girls. Every class my little girl attends seems to have more boys than girls. One class has ratio of 8 boys to 2 girls.

Hmmm .... i don't need to worry that my DD can't find a hubby. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: šŸ˜‰

But no worries, he can go after girls of different age also.
