All About Full-Time Maids

Hi peapot, my maid ah… I seriously think that she will be happier in a home where she is primarily expected to take care of only 1 kid, and doesn’t really need to do chores. As for her cooking, it’s v weird cos she can cut veg well but somehow she still doesn’t really know how to make sure things are really cooked or if they taste good. So maybe she ate organic, uncooked food back home?


She 's starting to cut corners. E.g. Not cleaning stains on clothes, staining clothes with clothes that run, putting in wet pots in cupboards etc. I just have the feeling that she can’t make it in the long run. Sigh!

Hi, need some advice here…


My maid is with us for bout 1 mth. She’s a transfer maid from Myanmar with 3 mth experience in sg worked with 2 previous employers.

She don’t remember instructions and keep making mistakes in doing simple household chores, eg she used the brush for vacuuming the floor to vacuum sofa when we have a separate brush jus for vacuuming the sofa. She thinks that she did all the chores correctly and im too fussy when I can still see stains on the dinning table, dust under my dresser, all our clothes in the wrong wardrobes with wrong hangers. her job is very simple - jus to cleaning as I will cook and look after my dd. Even my dd can clean better than her!

My patience is gg to a limit as my expectation for her is very low (previous maids have no issue on cleaning at all)… I think it doesn’t make sense to send her back to the agency as I will need to train a new maid tt might be as "good" as her or even worst… But sometimes, I feel very fed up cos even simple chores are not properly done…

Any idea on what I shld??

omgmum, is yr maid from Myanmmar? Usually burmese maids quite blur in house work. My previous myanmmar maid train like mad.


Carrot, usually if I know the transfer maid has been transferred twice within such a short period I wouldn’t take her. If she had been 70% alright, I don’t think any employer would want to transfer her out. So if you can accept that she’s been transferred before then maybe you need to lower your expectations and just keeps on training and reminding. How about asking her to re-do until she gets it correct. Asked whether she wants to do the same job twice or better to get it right the first time.

Umm, not ex-sing right? Wondering if could be my ex maids. They only had to help grandparents clean and slice, but couldn't cook to save their lives.

Yes. I find that many will start to slacken. Even mine, nowadays, I get the feel floor ain't as clean as before, and all she needs to do is clean house. :sad:

Hari Raya is just round the corner. do employer gave their indo maid little ang pow? Was wondering am i spoiling the market? Cos my new maid joined me less than a month was wondering shd i or not… furthermore with less than a month she’s showing some slacking in her duties.always full of excuses when I told her to follow my rules…

so angry now :mad: asked my maid to hand-wash my camisole and it was torn....how could it be torn (many small little holes)?


Last night, i told her to hand-wash and spin in a fabric net before putting into the machine...This morning she told me apologetically that it was torn..asked her at which stage was it torn? was it while she was hand-washing, wringgling it to dry, before putting in or after taking out of the machine?

All her answers were \"I don't know\". i said when did she realise that it was torn when she washing it? she gestured to me her rubbing the fabric together (goodness!) cannot imagine how she hand-wash something WITHOUT LOOKING AT IT! i mean when you open out the fabric to rub other parts, you could have notice it was torn right?...

if you've read my previous posts, you will know all the headaches she given me....finally a bit settle down, now this happen...her pay is not even enough to cover my loss, was still thinking of giving her an ang pow (now fat hope!)...the most tricky part is, i dunno if she did it on purpose to vent anger on me......... :mad:

Hi peace Charlie, in your case, I probably will keep quiet and act blur. Only one month and her work is like that. Give her one year and my guess is she'll deteriorate further.

But if you want to keep her happy, can give token like $10 bucks, and let her know that she could have more if her work is good.

Most imptly, give what you feel happy. Don't :stupid: after you give, nor feel guilty.she's here to work for a salary, not collect angbow.

Usually I’ll hand wash stuff stuff I don’t want spoilt myself. It’s more inconvenient, but cost effective. My first maid could wash, dry and fold my clothes, with one big big hole quietly. I did ask if she work with her eyes closed. What to do? These kind of things can’t be proven if it was negligence or malice.

One thing that I finally did was have a notebook that list out her serious errors, and make her countersign. It won’t be of use in court of law, but I find that she usually don’t repeat after it’s written down.
