In the first presidential election of 1993, Ong Teng Cheong got 59% while Chua Kim Yeow got 41% of the votes.

Haiyah - but that one is not a 4-corned fight, mah.

I would appreciate it if you could quote the entire post. I'm merely correcting what a forummer thought that Ong Teng Cheong won by 54%. I am not comparing the first and second presidential election.
Btw, who doesn't know that this is 4 cornered fight?

        Hi all…

Finally got a chance to be back at this forum after the busy week of Presidential Campaigning…

Spoilt votes - Some of these people spoil their votes to make a statement. Others just cannot decide. A spoilt vote is still considered a choice, they just choose NOT to exercise it. It is disheartening to see soooo many spoilt votes tho. And a word of advice to whoever intends to spoilt their vote: just mark "X" on all 4 boxes instead of leaving it blank! We spent lots of time trying to look for a marking when it is a blank vote but with crosses on all the boxes, the intention is clear.

Hindsight - It’s easy to say many things on hindsight. At the end of the day, I would still have voted for who I voted for even though he would not have been my ideal president. But given the choice of the 4 Tans, he was the closest to what I would like my President to do for me. I did not vote for the Top 2. I still wouldn’t change my vote on hindsight.

At the end of the day, TT did get the win and from what I observed at the counting place I was at, it is a pretty fair process. When I knew the margin was about 8000 votes, a recount wouldn’t help, where to find over 8000 iffy votes that can be awarded to TCB? Just NOT possible.

quote : It is like saying 'I don't want to play the game', yet the game goes on, with our without you, and the winner will, one way or another, have an impact in your life JMHO.

If enough people decide not to play the game, the game will stop ... besides ... for the past 12 yrs not sure how our dear president have impact our life and moving forward, honestly ... it will be great if the new EP can impact our life if not life will still goes on ...............
How many will be enough for the game to stop? If don't vote, it is considered as invalid, not a vote of 'we don't want a president'. My take is that those who do not vote also do not complain..

 EXTREMELY disappointed that I'm proven right. It is still a MIW island.

:gloomy: :gloomy: :gloomy: that it's probably another 2 decades (at least) before we might have a change of ruling party...hopefully will get to see that day before I die. :xedfingers:

Now with all the data in hand, MIW may start to strategise for the next PE.

With a winning count of only about 35%, emmm... probably next PE the PEC will issue about 6 COE to have a more comfortable safety margin than last night of cold sweating.

Personally the logic of having semi-final and final rounds are all clear for all to see to get the man of the real mandate between two but this is unlikely to happen.

Maybe opposition parties can start a campaign to boycott PE voting (by casting spolit voites) if PE still were to stay but need to include a fairer playing grounds of the semi-final and final rounds to prevent PEC for having the power to issue the number of COEs each time as they deem fit.

Non-whites all this while are climbing an almost impossible mountain with height keeps shifting... (similar to the redrawing of GE territories).

Up the deposit, and redraw consitution laws? Oh, and invite a female candidate?

I wonder if there'll be any President touring the grounds on Istana Open House this Tuesday then!
