      Hi Mummies,
I realized we do not have a thread to discuss P5 Chinese. So I've started one. Hope we can discuss and share more here. :rahrah:

Hi Janet, I started one before. It has been merged by moderators into the q&a psle Chinese thread.

          Hi Moderators,
Pls do not merge P5 Chinese with PSLE as it's of different standard and expectation. Thanks.

            Hi P5 mummies / daddies

Have anyone heard of \"Lu Lao Shi\" (http://www.mylulaoshi.com)? I am currently looking for only COmpo / Oral course for my DD who is weak in this area. If anyone heard of this, will like to hear your views... Or if anyone has any recommendation, would appreciate if you can share....

              只有玻璃,它有耐热的能力,经得起高温的锻炼,勇敢地面对阳光。

Answer given is 提炼. I am not sure if this is correct? According to dictionary:

              提炼 tíliàn
              (1) [sift and refine;extract and purify]∶用化学或物理方法使化合物或混合物纯净,或从中提取所需的东西
              提炼石油
              (2) [distill]∶比喻文艺创作和语言艺术等弃芜求精的过程;从芜杂的事物中找出有概括性的东西

Is it correct to use 提炼 in this question? If not, what should be a more appropriate answer? My ds' answer is 磨炼 but also does not seem correct to use it here too. Any expert can help? Thanks.

                Here's another question to check:

                除此以外,我和二十多个五年级的同学将以雄壮的“敲鼓”声来欢迎嘉宾,为这次的活动助兴。能够参与这次的演出,我们都感到无限的光彩。

Answer given is 自豪 but I thought should be 光荣. Just want to double check.

提炼 is more appropriate because it refers to a chemical process and the sentence is talking about 玻璃。磨炼 is used for a person's learning experiences.

The two answers are close, but they have slightly different meanings.

光荣 is normally used if one has been conferred a special honour, and feels glorious and proud about it. We use it for achievements on a grander scale, e.g. when someone has been chosen to represent the nation in an international competition or has achieved a gold medal in the Olympics.

自豪 is more appropriate because the sentence is talking about P5 students welcoming VIPs by playing drums. No doubt they feel honoured to be able to perform, but it's not really a glorious achievement...

I thot seldom they need to change both words. The 光 of 光彩 will trigger 光荣 , isn't it acceptable? do they accept alternative answer ?

It would not be merged. During the recent reorganisation, all levels have their own threads now. In the past, there was probably not alot of discussions in the initial stages.
