The Alternative Story (TAS) - Discussion

Hi,
Would you be able to provide author of the synthesis book that popular is selling. -
hi monstermummy,
there was one book that was recommended in another thread (http://resource.marshallcavendish.com/mcdoc/console/DocumentDetail.aspx?viewType=&id=48971&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1).
It was for P5 level. I bought it anyway becos there weren't any for lower levels and I figured that if the concept is clearly explained, nonid to wait till P5 to explain. I remembered buying another one, lemme go check. -
Hi hquek,
Thank you very much for your recommendation. I have seen some of the synthesis books
that have notes and they are rather clear but I heard that the TAS book has grammar notes for the more complicated grammar and the synthesis notes are explained in the way where the common mistakes children make are put down. That is what my friend told me and she said that for the common synthesis books available, they give you notes but not posible mistakes that are made and as a parent it helps to know what are the possible mistakes so when you guide your child, it is easier.
Your child is at TAS? Can you help me ask them if they are willing to sell to non TAS parents? :please: -

I don't think so. For upper pri classes, such as the one my ds is in, there is ankitty2:
For upper pri, once more than 12 students, they also have an assistant.
The admin said there'll be no assisstant for upper primary, sometimes the class can be packed with more 16 people. Some came for make up.If your kid who can focus well will not have problem as not every kid can focus well in big group.
assistant once there are more than 12.
Your son's class is on which day? He's lucky to have an assistant teacher. My friend's son is in sat's class no assisstant teacher, more than 14 already. -
Hi kitty2,
Is your son in the P5/6 class on Sat? Mine is and there are quite a number of students,
don’t know exactly how many and there has been an assistant teacher ever since the class
grew big. She is this teacher who is rather small-size. My son says she is quite strict. -
cheerymummy, I’ll check this Sat.
kitty2, I think for the older class, they may not have asst teacher.

Hi kitty2,
Your son's class is on which day? He's lucky to have an assistant teacher. My friend's son is in sat's class no assisstant teacher, more than 14 already.
At first my son was in the Sat class but not the P5/6 class. He was in the P5 class.
Difference was the P5 class work was slightly easier than P5/6. We had no choice but to choose this class as I wanted my son to be taught by the same
teacher who taught him since we joined when he was P4. We could not make
it for the other classes taught by her so we joined this class. While we were there,
when the class got more than 12, there was an assistant.
But we switched classes around the beginning of this year as I found that the P5 work did not stretch him and he was in P6. So we had to move him to Bukit
Timah when I found out that this same teacher was going to take the Bukit
Timah class on thursday. He is there now and the class is about 10. There is
no assistant teacher for this class because it is less than 12.
I think if the class your friend's son is in is the P5/6 class, then there should be an assistant for this sat class because I have a friend in that
class. She says the assistant teacher is actually one of the main teachers that
taught in schools, her name is Vicki. Maybe you could ask your friend to check
TAS for more details about this? (sorry I thought you were talking about your son, my mistake) -
oh… there is synthesis book and grammar books by TAS? My gal is with them. She has just started the class 3 weeks ago. Hmm…Do I have to tell the teacher that I want to purchase it or they will include that in the class?
-
Yes they have. Not sure if they use it for all levels, maybe for younger kids not yet? But
I think you can ask them if you want to purchase it. -
hi stressedmom, I think they will only use the book P3 and above. That said, i recall faintly DS1 was asked to bring to class (they knew we bought already).
FYI, they will let you know if there’s something that has to be bought. DS1 had to buy the spelling book (list of words inside) - they are using this for weekly spelling.
