hi vlim, I assume you refer only to students who DO take Chinese. (ie, not counting students taking other MT subjects..?
According to the estimation of ds, Yr 1 starts out with about 80 to 85% of chinese students taking HCL.
The the number may increase slightly through Yr 2, 3 and 4, as students who do well in CL exams will be recommended to switch to HCL. Some CL students also apply to switch to HCL out of their own accord.
hope this helps ~ -

I was going to edit my reply. I mean HCL 'O' levels exams. If they get at least a D7, they would have met the requirements for entrances to local universities, so most of them don't bother to attempt again. But there are also those who will try again in yr5 to get a more respectable grade. -

Oops getting a bit confuse now... But for ip students they don't take 'o' level right? So how to determine whether they can be exempted for hcl in yr 5?.. Unless they take 'o' level paper for hcl only in yr 4 :roll:vlim:
