        ZacK:

This was a handheld shot and the earlier shots were terrible as the image was blurry due to the long shutter speed. Only managed to find an almost acceptable shot on the 10th take

        Lens:\tVR 18-105mm F/3.5-5.6G
        Focal Length:\t18mm
        Aperture:\tF/22
        Shutter Speed:\t1s
        ISO Sensitivity:\tISO 6400

Btw care to share how to tell that my shot is overexposed? So that I can take note for similar shots in future.

        omg.. handheld.... πŸ˜“ πŸ˜“

i guess over-exposed or not can be rather a subjective thing. there are pictures which are intentionally over / under-exposed to convey a certain mood.

what i mean is that for the night shot pic, the environment / background looks a little too bright, so the main subject (ie. the light streaks) did not show show up very well. maybe adjusting the s-curve in photoshop a bit? jmho.. πŸ™‚

Maybe becos I am a bit lazy... Cant bear the thought of setting up a tripod and then just for that one shot. So I tend to make do without it... But I know it is kind of difficult to have a good take at night using handheld. The most recent experience I had was using a monopod to shoot MBS skyline from Marina Barrage. The result was fairly acceptable and certainly can be improved further.

Note your comments re the first pix I attached πŸ™‚ ... Just that I do not have photoshop... Still using the proprietary Nikon software that came with the cam

          wow !

          :udaman:

Thanks Tankee.. Glad you appreciate what I was trying to capture :celebrate: I am so thankful that we have moved on from film to digital image storage cos for every 1 take that is probably passable/acceptable, there are actually 10 others that didnt quite make the cut  .... I can be quite trigger happy at times too... just snap snap snap and see whether got any good takes or not :lightrod:[/quote]
agreed. digital imaging is cheaper and allow immediate verification of image quality. in the old days, I used to take multiple shots of the same scene using different settings, so that I would get to select the best among them  the number of rolls of film I used in an outing is :yikes:

do you link any external display like iPad to your camera for immediate checking your shots?

I cant imagine the cost that goes to into spending on film.. And maybe that was why I delayed taking up this hobby until recently πŸ˜“

Is the Pen E-P3 what's known as a hybrid camera? Can some kind soul explain what are the pros and cons of a hybrid camera?

We need to replace our dinosaur point and shoot. Unlikely that we'll be getting a DSLR. Thanks

                    πŸ˜‰

actually i don't know there's a term called 'hybrid' camera..

but if you're interested in the Olympus Pen series you might like to see my post 2 above ~

I think the hybrid camera is what's explained by Zack. I'm still learning but all these terms can get quite confusing for me

Hi schweppes... you may wish to check this link: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/olympusep3/

Very indepth review of E-P3, I find their review unbiased and you can check out their conclusion of this camera and use this as part of your consideration whether to get or not get this camera πŸ™‚

By hybrid.. I suppose you are referring to the mirrorless \"technology\"?

A mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera (MILC) is an emerging class of digital system cameras, intermediate between compact digital cameras and digital single-lens reflex cameras (DSLRs). They are characterized by large sensors (the same size as entry-level DSLRs), no mirror, and interchangeable lenses, as the name suggests, and provide DSLR-quality pictures in a significantly smaller camera. Alternative names include: Mirrorless System Camera (MSC), Compact System Camera (CSC), Digital Single Lens Mirrorless (DSLM), micro camera, Digital Interchangeable-Lens System camera, or Electronic Viewfinder with Interchangeable Lens (EVIL).

                        :thankyou: Zack.

Am looking for something that is less complicated and expensive than the DSLR but one that can take fast-action shots (sporting events?), panorama, far and near shots, etc....Thought I read somewhere that a hybrid camera has such functions.

Oh dear.... sounds like I want it all and must be affordable too. Haha... living up to my kiasuparent name πŸ˜‚
