      I hope MOE realises the impact this has on families.

      Janet, like you, I have been \"forced\" to hire an English tutor for my DD and I cannot afford it!

      Schools teaching little but setting ridiculous standards are forcing parents like us to spend spend spend on tutors.
      Yes...I hope MOE realizes the financial impact on parents.
      The SA1 gave me a wake-up call...although I've been coaching son's EL, that exam gave me a shock when I saw the questions (grammar/vocab/comprehension OE/cloze)...thank goodness there isn't a CA2 or I would have high blood pressure. I hated the idea of having to send my son for enrichment when I follow closely...my hubby is a sole breadwinner.
      Why must MOE set such difficult papers ? By teaching little and the excuse given is too big a class to teach skills so that enrichment centres to prosper ? :rant:

        cimman,

        As a result, top marks in primary school has lost its appeal to me. Taste more bitter than anything else.

        Can't wait to get out of the primary school system. In the long run, kids who gain top marks this way may (IMHO) not be successful later.
        When kids score HIGH / TOP marks in primary school, sad to say the credit belongs to the tutors/enrichment centres. We pay through our noses to get those marks. It's idiotic that MOE makes the system this way. Aren't school teachers qualified to teach our kids ?

          Yes, school teacher are qualified teacher but some of them dun really teach well and we have to send kids for tuition. I still remember my son’s teacher who was trained in maths but was tasked to teach english and science. And this teacher told my son that she doesn’t really know Science!!!

            My son's Maths paper for CA2 was set by the Science teacher this year. The format of all almost all the questions in the problem solving part completely different from what they have been learning frm their Maths teacher! Ended up more than half the class failed! My son managed to scrape thru bcos he did well for the paper 1. I really don't understand what in the world are all these schools trying to achieve??!!?? :mad:

              not enough sch teachers so teachers has to multi task. But the kids will indirectly suffer.from this lousy arrangement.

              I still rem my son asking me whether a particular sci topic will be tested in the psle cos it is being taught atthe tuition centre but his sch teacher did not cover this topic in sch.

                Once bitten, twice shy. I will never ask son's school teacher again what will be tested for SA2. Everything taught since P3 will be tested...so revise.

                  Been having wake-up calls through out the terms .....
                  CA1 = Chinese
                  SA1 = Maths
                  CA2 = English
                  and don't tell me SA2 will be Science or all the 4 or 5 subjects (including
                  HMT) !!!!!!! 😢 :imdrowning:

                  Janet & All Parents, 我们一起加油, jia you, 加油, jia you, 加油, jia you !!!!!

                    Hi Passion88,

                    I do not have any idea what this IP or DSA thing is all about...and my son is in P5... :faint: Looks like I really need to find out more. Why is this education system so complicating ?

                    Signed up my son for EL enrichment for language initially...then realized his creative writing sucks equally. Can't afford to go for 2 lessons, so swapped to writing. Thanks to a great mummy :snuggles: who introduced me TAS...so now he has 2-in-1. Other than Science, his 3 subjects are outsourced :nailbite: If I still have a maid, I will have to send her off first before signing my son for these essential classes.

                      What do you all think of this... http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=25559

                      Is there a way we can pool resources from the various schools?

                        Oral exams coming up next week and my ds’ teachers have not done anything to practise with them or gave them any notes. Sigh, looks like we are on our own again.
