All About Choosing and Buying Violins

Synwin trade in their violin priced $580 and above by 1/3 of the price. I ask my teacher yesterday, she said Synwin has good range of student violin, the sound is as compare to the same price violin outside is more valuable for the price you paid. There are student bought $800 Czech violin just has the same like $300 Synwin violin. I am not promoting Synwin, just wish to help some parents.

All my sister's violin since she was 3yo were selected by her violin teacher. My parents only had to tell him their budget and it'll be settled for them.
Only my sis' first and latest violins are brand new, the rest were 2nd hand as she would outgrow them very quickly. 2nd hand came from teacher's other students and he offers trade in program. It's more convenient & it's the best arrangement for parents who are not musically inclined.
It's best to ask your violin teacher for recommendations. My sis' violin teacher has a few regular shops he goes to & he gets very special rates

yup, I agree with luckystar that synwin has good range of violins. I bought mine from Cremuz. They will trade in their own violins when you upgrade as well.
Snowz, Donβt know if you have found your violin but since you are looking for full size, I guess its better to go for something handmade and better sounding than the student range $100+ type. -

Hihi,
Synwin and Gramercy have rather good range of hand-crafted violins. For full size, I would strongly recommend investing in a good hand-crafted violin. My students mostly get their violins from Synwin. It is important to purchase violin from shops who have good after-sales service and able to repair violins etc. -

Hi, I would like to know if anyone can share where can I buy a violin for my 5 years old son at the minimum budget. Cuz I heard that buying a expensive violin for children is not recommended as they will change the violin every 6mths as they are still growing up. Besides, what type of lesson should i choose? Individual or class? Any recommended school around Jurong Area?
Thanks..

Hi,
This reply may be too late.
But hope it will help in some way. U can buy the violin from Synwin/Gramercy etc. For beginner, you do not have to buy hand crafted violins. You can purchase the beginner model which is selling at $120 (synwin). It is about this price range at Gramercy too. As a violin teacher, I would recommend individual lesson. I have tried group teaching and it is not very effective as every student has different level of understanding and progress. Therefore it is either slowing down the stronger students' progress or the weaker students' being neglected. However group lesson has its pros. The child will be more motivated due to the positive peer pressure. -

Would you recommend 1-to-1 even for 3 year olds?

Hello. My school offers violin lessons for both children as young as 3 years old to adults. We also provide the service of getting the violin for the child. As a student in our school, he or she will be entitled to 10% discount for violin and the shoulder rest. At current we have a 30min trial promotion for new students going for S$15 (excl GST).
