BOOK Fairs
-
Back from Borders book fair and same comments as hquek. Kids all hungry and tired after the long queue for payment, and we ended up going for a nice long meal to rest our legs.
The books are merely grouped in adult fiction, non-fiction and kids section. Under each of these categories, hardly any sorting so you need to browse around to get the books you want. I was early but saw that as time went by, it became more and more messy. I was looking more for mid primary and teens fiction books - not much choice and couldn’t even get nice sets of the range we were initially targetting for. Having said that, maybe it is also because I do not have much time to look with kids in tow…then again, I’m never one that love crowd and squeeze!
Lots of parents went with young kids (some babies and some in strollers) - definitely not a place for such "family outing". Poor kids and parents couldn’t even shop much with such crowd. Payment queue system not ideal at all, and long winding queue formed with people searching where is end of queue around the hall!
Suggest if you really want to shop to do so with someone who can take turns to shop and queue for payment at the same time. -

Back from the fair, and in 1 piece. There are A LOT of people there. The queue to pay is scary...very very scary. it snakes around the hall and more - I think it will take about 2-2.5 hours just to queue to pay. I'm just curious why pp will spend that time queueing for a couple of books (saw some pp with that little).
Thanks for the feedback. Originally thinking of bringing my girls to expo since no school today. Read your posting & decided to let them stay home to play lego instead

Saw a power mum who was carrying her tot in one arm and looking for books with the other. I am amazed at her strength - even if the bb weighs 6-8kg, I think my arms will be super duper sore.

dunno if this counts as book fair. But I went to Ion orchard recently. Prologue having sale. 20% off 2 books (I think must buy in even numbers). Not sure what are the titles that are supposed to go for high high discount. Didn’t buy any books from there, but stationery also 20% - able to top up what I wanted. No crowd at all during weekdays.
Figure the time savings offset whatever little bit more I get during Popular closed door events. -

I see so many parents leaving kids sitting around along the wall or open area, and some even left the older one to look after the younger (maybe 3-4 yrs old) one. Kind of scary if they ran off....... DD was following me around, but due to her height and the crowd, she was constantly being knocked by boxes (they ran out of baskets and some people took carton boxes to collect the books they were buying) or jabbed by elbows accidentally. Subsequently when we started to queue to pay, we realised how long that queue was, and both DS and DD were absolutely tired by the time we left the place! -

Actually Popular is having 20% off for some of the teen's range of books. It probably make more sense to get that compared with the travel, time spent and queue at the expo....and no guarantee you can find the book you want given the mess.dunno if this counts as book fair.
