It is true that all parents are concerned for their own kids. The mainstreamers viewed that they are competing in a unfair battleground with the GEPers during the DSA. But the GEPers are also competing in a unfair battleground with the mainstream during PSLE. One has to understand that the real PSLE preparation for the GEPers starts in P6, end of term 2. Gepers are not genius in all subjects, they also need time to prepare for exam especially for their weaker subjects. The stress that the child went through is tremendous, first the P6SA1, then the DSA and interviews, follow by the outcomes of the DSA, and finally the PSLE. If the so called 'prority' is not given to the GEPers during DSA, many parents will think twice before putting their child in the GEP because of the stress, uncertainity and the unfair battleground during the PSLE. You have mentioned what exactly how I feel now and the situation that my DS is in. However, if my younger DS is accepted to GEP in 2 years time, I will still sent him to the GEP. No regret sending my DS to GEP, it was just him that he did not work hard enough or not good enough. No one to blame. -

I think there is some \"extra bonus\" points for those in Sec 4 taking \"o\" level now. There's why someone need almost \"Zero\" point to get into the top JC. Maybe some \"senor\" here would elaborate more.

They should just abolish DSA and give GEPers an extra bonus points over their PSLE score (like what they do for HMT). I remember that for entry to JC last time, it was that way. eg. affiliated school - minus 2 points, national sportsman - minus 4 points, or something like that.

Would suggest this to MOE to apply this to PSLE. If not why students want to spent time in CCA, SMOPS, GEP, etc...So the PSLE result not only depend on the exams paper. -
Education is a life long process. At this juncture, DSA is just one milestone. The kids don’t really care too much of it if not for us parents, as we want to have the best for them. We are the one who rub off our anxiety and kiasuism on them. Education is about acquiring knowledge, but what we have now is a system that is that of a paper chase, and we have all the supporting element to help them achieve that. Attend this briefing in one of the tuition centre, and the presenter proudly proclaim that they are well tune to our education system, and their methodology are specifically for the system. Very short term perspective, but I still have to leave my DS there, as we still need to overcome this milestone.

One is in the west and one in the east, you must be someone staying in central? These 2 schools are of opposite system, one a SAP school with strong chinese background and a long tradition. The othe is new, modular subject based system with an early emphasis on applied science. For me, I am leaving it to my DS to decide, with us offering guidance. I am still inclined towards the traditional education system, and that will be my guidng principle. -

You always have a choice to put in the kid into GEP. \"Fair\" or \"unfair\" --> u are given a choice. Life itself is unfair, but it is dependent on you to make the best out of it.
I cannot understand why GEP kids who are not successful in DSA, then have to take PSLE, is considered \"unfair\"?
Whether GEP or mainstreamer study same subjects, abeit GEP at greater depth. Most mainstreamer kids would not bother about \"chiong\" PSLE until P6. Even GEP cannot presume they can ignore PSLE when they are in P5.
To mainstreamer looking at GEP, it is like \"Welcome dvision 1 player to our game!\"
None of my many niece and nephew were in GEP. All end up in 2nd tier secondary schools, but still went to NUS, NTU.
Of course, if you are looking for scholarship, etc, it is different. But wheher DSA or not, it will not be a factor. It will depends on how hard the student work in PSLE, then in secondary school.
I would be very glad if my children qualify for GEP because I think the chances of them become academically more capable is higher. -

Hi Blur Dad,My DS scored 77.x% for his SA1. Applied DSA to RI, HCI and ASCI. Got rejected from RI and HCI. WL for ACSI. The DSA journey was quite painful for my DS. Take sometime for him to get over it.
Well, I guess this is the price to pay for not scoring >80% and hoping to get DSA to the top boy’s school via DSA.
