thanks mincy and chrismei for your insight. I think it is also depending the child’s learning approach and ability.

hi chrismei
I think it is great that your girl is more interested in reading books. I will probably encourage that as that is a start to independent learning.
My son also do that for books he like. But I think he only memorise what I read to him and associate it with the picture he see. But its so cute when they do that.
I am thinking of practising Glen Norman encyclopedic knowledge mtd on my boy, but so far, did not really follow his way. For words recognition, so far I have better luck playing words lotto with him.
My boy is turning 3 and is in Sparkletots since 18 months. So far, I feel that he is happy there but some parents feel that they don't teach enough to the kids other than songs and nursery rythms (which I think is fine for now) I probably will not sent him for phonics class. Thinking of getting a good phonics DVD for that instead.
ks2me, yes I think every child is different. Just have to teach according to their prefered learning styles and expose them to diffrent things and ways of learning and make it enjoyable for them. -

I just bought a couple of DVDs: http://www.bbshop.com.sg/Prod_Info/Disp-Edu02.htm. I find them very good - at least my daughter enjoys watching them. Will review after a few weeks on their effectiveness. -
Hi on the ability of 14 mth knowing A-Z, colors, etc., I think it is possible provided parents start stimulation in an early stage.
My son, started watching Baby Genius VCD since three and was able to recognise A-Z, colors and shapes when he was one plus. He had also watch other similar American series VCD (forgot name now as I had given the VCDs away) which had proved to be useful. These CDs are approx $20 each and can be purchased at many stores. -
Hi Mincy
You can try this phonics DVD - http://www.amazon.com/Leap-Frog-Letter-Factory/dp/B0000INU6S.
My girl enjoyed a lot and learning from it...thought it was too young for my girl but was encouraged by my colleagues who also shown to their children...

Hi, ref to my earlier post, I had meant that my son started watching Baby Genius VCD fm 3 months…
The VCDs are suitable for 3mths - 36mths, and he enjoyed it v much as it taught Alphabets, colors, shapes etc with classical music… Though he is too impatient for piano lessons now, he can hum w the music whenever he hears it. -
