[Bukit Timah] Primary Schools
-
hi i just came across this web site frm singaporemotherhood.
i ve posted a question there...
i ve a 5yr old girl & a 2yr old boy... we re staying in bedok, my inlaws & parents are all in the west. we are very open to sell the hse and move to bt timah for pri sch if possible.
i ve been thinking long and hard.
i look at my girl, she loves dancing, her ambition is to be a ballet teacher next time. faint...
i can imagine how stressed she will be if she is in nyps..
does anyone know any other sch will suit her better?
i day dream that if she is into scgs, i may ve to put son in acs junior if i am still staying in bt timah area by 2012.
it's all cos of the affiliation to the sec sch.
but what abt the creative part... does anybody know any sch let the girls thrive in this area?
2yr old son just loves car, mcqueen...:( wat sch will be suitable?
appreciate yr kind advice. tx again! -
If you are looking at developing your gals’s interest in dance, you may like to consider Singapore Chinese Girls Primary School or Haig Girls School. These 2 girls schools are big on the arts/dance but Haig Girls school has no affiliation to any secondary school.

Hi
RGPS hire a lady from Australian Ballet Dance Company to teach ballet. The ECA is open as early as P1. I am not sure though how good their ballet is. -
Hi Jass,
I was from SCGS (Secondary), and yes, dance IS a very big thing in that school.
I never thought that SCGS was academically strong, but they really value ties. They will bend over backwards to get as many of the pri sch girls into the sec school as possible. the cutoff is quite amazing (for an 'elite' school that is). That's when I was there, not sure about now.
So if your girl goes there, may not have to worry so much when come to psle.

Ya...i am looking for a all-rounder... want her to be cultivated in a gd environment but teaching her winning and getting top in the class is not the most impt thing on this earth.
I want my kids get to be able to communicate properly and have high EQ.
But i thk of going thru the whole balloting exercise again, for my son in 2012, i am really hesitating... that's why nyps is so attractive to so many parents, i shld thk so.. save the 2nd round of trouble & STRESS! -
Hi Jass,
If you r thinking of NYPS, the entry is not guarantee for within 1km unless your r accepted to b a PV at NYPS or is an active community leader, ie Ph 2B. Since yr girl is 5yr, U would hav missed the deadline as NYPS’ PV cut off date for PV is 2yrs before reg, or approx by Oct, 07. This year, Ph 2C is 55 succesful out of 61 applicants. -
Yes
i noticed… i had a frd who stays within 1km frm nyps. still ballot… so stressful for her… -

just came back from canada two weeks' ago, daughter had a space vacancy in Raffles Girls' Primary School in primary 4 now but was also offered a space in St Anthony's Connasion Convent in Bedok North and CHIJ Katong Primary School, currently in Bedok North too, but will go to new building next year at Martia Road.
Can someone advise if it does matters much if I make the right choice to get my daughter to go to either St Anthony or CHIJ Katong as I live near to the East Coast and Raffles Girls' is at Hillcrest Road, which is in Upper Bt Timah Road?
I do not quite know the standards of schooling here and everyone is telling me a different stories.[/b] -
The standard at Raffles Girls Primary will definitely be higher than the other 2 schools, in my opinion.
Question is : Will your daughter be able to cope with the higher demand of this school as compared to other schools ? Or do you want to subject your daughter to a more pressurizing school environment ? -

Congrats to u guys who have succeeded in enrolling your kids in ACS! My daughter is 18 mths and I'm already thinking of P1 registration! Which one is better? MGS or SCGS? I'm living >2km away from this two schools and even thinking of renting a place <km to either one of these schools. Just the other day, a friend whose daughter will be in P1 (2010) called MGS to ask about PV. And guess what, they said they do not need any PVs..wonder if this is true. Chief, am already so stress about this! I have like hmmm..5 more years to P1 registration, do you have any other tips just so that I can get my daughter in one of those branded schools..... =(
