overall i believe that FMPS does not really excel in anything spectacular… maybe one or two areas…

they provide a pretty holistic approach to early education in a coed environment…

so it depends on your expectations… if you want academically excellent students… you’ll get a few… and not the whole lot… the school prepares kids for many areas of life with emphasis on honesty integrity and social concerns…

        Hi mckenzy

        thank you for your sharing.

My whole objective is just trying to find more as I was been told of the constant donations from other sources but that could be many years ago… also, It could be the wrong information that has passed down to various groups ultimatly. And I just like to know more in case anyone know the intention of the donations…

I share the same thoughts as you and would be telling the same thing to my daughter in future should she cannot fulfil the request and just return to the school. The most important thing is the morale and in case we have done our out most for the contribution, that should be sufficient and the school should not question.

I have no issue if it meant for helping the poor / sick/ or for the school premises and school pocket money fund etc as the school is partial government subsidies…

fmps is govt aided so the funds are less than govt schools… other sources would be from the methodist board, alumni and school fund raising. it probably looks like the school has alot of it(fundraising drives) due to its status as a govt-aided one.

not everything is through outright donations though… the school puts up events like concerts - and in order to fund such events (for the pupil aesthetic groups to have exposure), they have fund raising to subsidise the cost of organising such an event (venue, meals, transport etc )…

so it may seem that there is alot of it going on…

naturally… i make it a point to find out more than just brushoff the request for funding… in the end the choice is yours… if the kids go out without understanding WHY they are raising funds then of course it defeats the purpose…

participation is key i believe, to achieving at least a sense of ownership and belonging…

I will definitely want to find out the objective and the reason for each funding and for my kid to understand the purpose of the events…

we do not just follow blindly and do things without understanding the full picture…and that is the reason why I am checking to know more…

basically the foundamental teaching is to let our kid knows about sharing, helping and being compassionate and loving kindness…through the events…

I am not against the ideas but the issue is how frequent & whether it is a mandatory exercise. I guess I would gradually find out more when my girl starts with the school.

Your sharing do help me to understand more about the events and the basic objective behind the funds raising etc…

could you share like what kind of the timing changes? a bit later, like 8am instead of 7.30 am?

personally for us, we feel a bit later will be better so that child can have a little more sleep :snooze:
i believe this is very subjective and individual as some parents might prefer the earlier timing so that they can go to work after sending the child to the school....

Actually current start of school is 0710hrs… this will shift to 0730hrs… school buses are already starting this timing and have shifted accordingly. Kids on school transport should be reaching now about 0700hrs

0730hrs start of school in effect next week… so if you drive… you can wake a little later : ]

                    Hi,

My son will be in P1 to Fairfield too. Enrolled him using church membership and to let him have longer sleeping hours and the convenience of us travelling nearer to town as our activities are always in the central. We moved from CCK to Dover in July.
