When DD is small, she refuse to be put in the cot. She would cry until someone pick her up. I think she dont like to sleep alone. So she start to sleep with us until 5yrs old and she is on her own now.

I suspect babies are smarter than we assume - they can easily tell the difference between the comfort level of the 2 types of mattresses. My 4 year old son would sleep nowhere else but on our bed. My 5 month old has also been displaying the same preference for a while now - fussing less when napping on our bed but would at times complain when left on his cot.

Only my 1st bb slept in a cot… but only for awhile… as he is too long…

              even till not

Later, when our 2nd bb was born… she slept on the ned with me… as we don’t have the space to put the cot…

if she doesn’t like the cot, then let her sleep elsewhere. no point struggling with her everyday and make yourself stress up and tired. Parents need lots of rest too … otherwise how to have enough energy and strength to take care of kids.

my elder boy was like that too… he hates the cot and will cry non-stop if we put him inside so i ended up getting a bigger mattress when he was 4mths and put it beside my bed. He was happier (cos i think more spacious and he can roll anywhere he wants and he doesn’t feel confined… my own thinking) and slept well . Since then he has being sleeping on his own.

my younger one co-slps with me now cos i bf-ing him (easier at night) and he doesnt like cot cos no space to let him flip here flip there. Gonna put the cot back to storeroom and get mattress for him too

My DS1 slept in the cot only for a short while when he was a baby usually during the day and when we need to put him down somewhere safe when he was a toddler. Most times he slept on a portable "Combi" bed cum feeding chair with a rocker. After that he slept on our king-size bed and has been there since!

Now my DS2 baby is also sleeping in the "Combi" rocking bed. The cot is now used as a changing "table" to change his nappy and to wipe him down.

A bit regretful but the cot is really under-utilized and nowadays, the "yao-lan" is passe and took up quite a lot of space. Also we are really discouraged from "shaking" the baby when their brains are still so vulnerable. Especially not when you have maids taking care and the scary thing my friend told me is that the maid can just shake and shake after half-an-hour still dunno how to stop!
