Sashimi

The only way to get me to eat fish willingly is to give it to me raw. I don't like the smell and taste of it when it's cooked. I also hate the bones due to a number of choking incidents through my life, one of which was really bad. sashimi (my DH, not the food :politebleah:) knows this so if he wants me to eat any cooked fish at all, he has to serve me, and even then, I will eat it last so that I have enough space in my bowl/plate to mash the fish with my spoon to ensure that there are absolutely no more bones.
i had a real bad choking incident with fish bone when in primary school. remembered my mum had to quickly bring me to take cab and see our family doc who skilfully took out the bone from my throat!!! :!: to think of it even now... -

At least you got professional help..... My mom gave me the \"traditional cures\"; swallow rice. It didn't work so she poured me some vinegar. It worked but the vinegar taste hit me after I gulped it down in urgency. I ran to the fridge and grabbed the first sweet thing I saw, which was orange juice. I gulped it down only to realise later what all these would do to the half-eaten meal already in my stomach. The next few minutes saw me in the bathroom throwing up said meal. My mom took pity on me and told me to rest instead of demanding that I finish the rest of my meal. :faint: -
hmm...my boy dun only take raw salmon, but any kind of raw fish...as long as it's raw..he doesn't like cooked...maybe because of the smell? :?

I’ve tried buying raw salmon fillet from wet market and eat it like eating sashimi - is it safe? When I was at a Jap sushi store recently, I saw certain portion of salmon labelled as ‘sashimi’ while certain parts indicated ‘not for raw consumption’. How to differentiate? Must I get sashimi from renowned Jap restaurants to enjoy my fav food?

wow! so adventurous! i would never dare do that! sashimi must be very fresh to be consumed raw. just to share this in case parents want to get it. fassler - very fresh salmon from woodlands. they supply to restaurant etc. unless u stay in woodlands, likely won't go there very often la.

Sashimi - my family's favourite... a must-have for us. At least, twice a month, we must satisfy this craving of ours and charge to a Jap restaurant to savour it.

tears of joy feeling so happy to be so popular. sniff
How do you all do it? Get your kids to eat sashimi? Did they like it from the start? How to get my DD to acquire the taste? I’m really interested to expand her very fussy tastes in food. We spoiled her and now must make amends. -
sashimi:
like u said, its an acquired taste. either she likes or she does not lor. mine only 3.5 yrs so dun dare to feed her yet. her papa get tummyache everytime he eats raw food so he has \"acquired\" an intense dislike for raw food. hope my dd not like him.. but then again, if so, it means i get to eat ALL the sashimi! hehe..*tears of joy* feeling so happy to be so popular. *sniff*

Yeah, i'm guilty too.
In fact, i dun eat any form of sushi..
raw food and stuff like that.. Spicey
Latina flavour i may have but one
dose of that wasabi, i feel it up
from my nose to my brain! And
eating sushi plain is boring.. bland..
Can eat sushi without wasabi?
Got alternatives or not? Sauce i mean..

Applies to me too. Not many years ago, I couldn’t stand wasabi and did not like sashimi. I had to consciously tell myself I needed to experience sashimi in order to try it. To date, I still don’t like certain sashimi, but I love salmon sashimi. Still can’t appreciate raw tuna or ootoro. Ebi sashimi only worth eating in Hokkaido…
One day I told myself again, I have to see why wasabi is so popular, so I tried it. Ok lor, nothing great. But before I knew it it became a staple of sashimi wo taberu koto…
BTW I hear that this habit of mixing wasabi and soy sauce together is a Singaporean habit. The Japanese don’t do that.
