All About ABRSM Grades & Support

Hi parents,
just like to ask you this. I don't always follow the local news. Is there any instances in the last 3 years that a 6 year old manage to pass grade 5 piano with distinction? I could only find this article that dated two years ago.

The article said ‘passed with a score of 117’ not distinction
Regardless of score, I think it’s impressive for a 6yo to be able to deliver grade 5 pieces -
Yes I am aware that the girl in article only got a pass. I contacted abrsm and according to them there are 6 year olds who has managed to get grade 5 distinctions before in singapore. However for obvious confidentiality issue, they cant disclose more info. So I figure I may ask here if there is any news of this for the last couple of years. I am doing a study on graded exam system currently and planning to write a paper on it.

I am not aware of any 6 year olds with distinctions. But it is entirely possible one of the young talents have achieved this feat. Anyway, I don’t think it is that hard for any teachers to achieve this as long a child is reasonably talented and hardworking.

It is highly possible for a six years old to score distinction for piano. My kid is taking both violin and piano next year, both grade 5. He is currently 7 years old.

Wow, that's great. Is he in the School of Young Talents programme? -
Used to. But now engage private tutors
(Sorry that I wouldn’t be revealing both his piano and violin teachers as both of them make an exception to take him in. He’s their youngest student).

Somehow I have the nagging suspicion that this thread is a thinly veiled attempt to advertise Music Workshop.

Most definitely not. If you have search for other postings by me, you would have realize that I am a private piano teacher cum book author. And I am not affiliated to any music schools in any way. -

If you do not mind sharing, can you pm me the reason you took out your son from Young Talents?
