I'm sure you've already been to this site, which has all the admin details: http://www.nanyanggirlshigh.moe.edu.sg/cos/o.x?c=/wbn/pagetree&func=view&rid=1100722

I don't think there's much she can do apart from consolidate her knowledge in preparation for the tests (if need be, she can try emailing the school to ask for past papers/ what will be tested). It's much too late to be working on her portfolio (leadership, competitions, extra-curriculars etc).

Is she planning on joining a particular programme/ CCA (eg sports or performing arts)? Working on her talent in that specific area would be helpful if that's the case. Doing mock interviews covering predictable questions (why Nanyang, how do you see yourself contributing to Nanyang, tell me about your interests) will also be useful (assuming she gets shortlisted). I'm not sure if the interview covers current affairs/ academic questions, so get her to enquire if need be.

Will your daughter be able to cope with the rigour of Nanyang's curriculum though? Most students will find it challenging due to the sheer volume of homework/ projects/ tests and also the content (it goes beyond the O levels in most cases). I managed to get by fine but I had friends who really struggled in Nanyang (and a poor foundation means you'll have to play catch up for A levels subsequently). That said, I think she should definitely have a go. The admissions tests will probably be a good indicator of difficulty.

          Best of luck!

haha thank you micko07 for your helpful tips ! i am sure she can cope with it because my daughter is hardworking. She is working hard on her studies now, she is considered average in her cca but she does not plan to take the same cca if she gets in so now just counting on her to work hard. Thanks !

              Fairy:

Ni NatTif Mummy. Congrats! Is your girl from the GEP? Is her DSA via Academic or CCA? Did NYGH call you or have they updated the web A/C? Did she attend any interview? Which school is she currently at? Is she the 'Top-Of-The Cohort type? Hope you can share with us. Just wish to know the profile of someone NYGH is looking for. Thanks.

Hi! Yes, my gal from GEP, not 'Top-Of-The Cohort' type. I received email from the school and the web already updated the status. She went to the interview last week as she missed by 0.2pts to gain direct admission without interview. She chose the school as she is interested in their Bi-Cultural programme and likes Chinese, some of her seniors are there and I guess quite a no of her sch mates will be there. It's just like an extension of her primary sch, she feels comfortable there. The interviewer commented she shows confident in herself and she did very well in her CCA. Another of her GEP friend went for a 2nd interview, was accepted as well. At first we were thinking of applying via CCA, but she decided not to as she doesn't want to be 'binded' for 4 yrs

Hi NatTif Mummy, Congratulation to your gal! :congrats:
May i know, what do you mean by \"she missed by 0.2pts to gain dsa without interview?\" what point is that? GAT test? or ? sorry just want to know more if you don't mind sharing.. Thanks 😄

Badminton is also a core CCA. I am very happy with the school culture & support given by the school to the students. I also have a sense that it is a well run school administratively. Only real complaint is the frequent traffic congestions along the stretch of Dunearn Road with so many schools packed so close together!

My friend whose son is in another IP sch came over to my house to take a look at my DD1’s work and commented that NYGH teachers really teach and prepare their students with many worksheets and past year exam papers. She said her son’s school was really "teach less and learn more on your own" so she has to engage private tutors as tuition centres may not cater to his son’s IP sch syllabus and her son was getting 50 -60 range of marks in his term 1 and 2.

My DD1 enjoys her Sec 1 life at NYGH and her class is quite closely knit. They really play hard and study hard ! We’re glad that we’ve made the right choice. Her class is quite competitive too. The 1st in her class is 84.7, 2nd : 84.5 and 3rd : 84.0 Although in terms of average marks there’s one girl who got 86 but her MSG is > 1 due to her chinese is A2. Quite a pity.

Btw parents of Sec 1, any lobang to purchase iPad2 apart from the vendors that the sch had recommended during the iPad briefing ? Do you think there’ll be any discount at any IT fair ? TIA.
