          Morning!

Just a query - are any of the mummies and daddies here sending or thinking of sending their DD or DS for the Primary 1 Prepatory English/Math/Science classes that are currently being offered by some tuition/enrichment centres ?

Is this necessary or do you think these are targetted more for children who perhaps did not attend formal schooling and therefore need the exposure?
I have asked that question before too. Not sure what is being taught in such prepatory classes and whether is it necessary... :skeptical:

i was thinking such classes shd be the same as what each kindy wld prepare their K2s, isnt it?

js that maybe these classes wld go more into depth. 🤷

                  Hi

I have no intention yet.. unless requested by the school..

For me, the initial year.. is for him to adapt to the school environment, life etc... I do not want to stress him yet immediately when school starts.. 😄

                    hi essential..

Where do you stay? Some of those shops that sell the stuff also offer the course..

You may want to ask them..

                      This is my 2 cents

U can use the post by chief as a checklist in here

                      http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=117&hilit=primary+one

Base on the checklist, get K2 assessment books on Chinese, English and Maths for your child to try.

If your child is able to complete most of it, then the child is ok academicallry fo P1. Now it's still term 4, so some areas are not yet taught by the teachers in kindy/cc.

If the child is unable to complete half, or from his work on the assessment books, you discover some concept undestanding issues, there are a few options.

If the child is in Kindy which will end mid Nov, u will have to decide to coach the child yourself or ask the teacher for help during term4.

If the kindy is not able to spend extra time with your child and you are able to spend twenty - thirty mins per day to help then I think it's ok.

If your child is in CC, I think the last day is later? Discuss with the teacher if it's possible to work on the weaker areas during Nov/Dec period.

2nd it's the primary school. If your child's school is 1st tier type, then the child might need to be more prepared. As parents, u need to judge, is your child able to catch up on his/he own or need one-to-one help in a more fast paced environment. Some teachers have the skills to guage the competencies level of the class and provide appropriate level of work for the different students in their class.

If you wish to enroll your child in a prep class, it's best that the centre is familiar with MOE curriculum. Even better if the teacher is ex-MOE teacher who deals with lower primary kids.

To me the parents must undestand the child as well as the primary school that the child will be in to decide how best to prepare the child.
