Hi all
Joining this club as I have a 2003 boy now in P2
P2 isn't all that exciting I guess, so that's why this thread is relatively quiet compared to a P1 or P6 thread?
My main headache with my P2 boy now lies mainly with his Chinese
He just got back his Term 3 progress report today and there were four columns which the teacher could tick for his performance in the subject - Very good, good, fair or needs improvement. Sadly, most of the ticks were in \"Needs improvement\".

Hi kiasimi,
At least your DS's school have term report de.. ..my DS's case not even email updates or feedback.. ..'No news...good news' for now, but probably :yikes:
when exam results are released :faint: -
Ya, for me, my ds1's school is one of those that already did away with CA and SA for P1 and 2, so there's nothing much to ask about. Maybe next yr onwards, i will be asking more Qs.
currently all they do in school are the bite-sized assessments whereby the teacher will give feedback like what kiasimi mentioned, a lot of rubrics and checklists and let us know what our kid can do well or not.
they do have percentages given to us (i.e. scores) of the mini-tests like listening compre, oral, show and tell and topic reviews.
but because all these small small percentages add up to the total, we parents don't really have to do much.
just wait till end of the year then tr will tell us how it is like.
this yr we had 2 PTMs already. maybe going to be 3 if there is another end of the yr like last yr.
in the past my time, i don't recall that many in a yr for Pr sch, certainly not P2. usually P2 is considered one of the uneventful yrs.
i guess teachers have to work a lot more harder nowadays with so many more PTMs and bite-sized assessments huh?
at least in the past, only need to set and mark CA and SA. now, so many sprinkled throughout the yr, have to give parents so much feedback, have to guide and set project work, listen to countless show and tell...
then the kids have PAL and they have to organise the performances. go with kids for the swim lessons and be even in charge of retrieving their underwear from the toilet when they forget... hahaha...
i'm just glad and thankful my ds1 has a really great tr this yr. hope he'll be lucky every yr and then my ds2 who is entering P1 next yr too! the form tr can really make them have a great day or make them hate going to school, hor? -

auntiem, yes, I guess I am quite happy with my son's school. It is just a neighbourhood school, but his form teacher is great! She takes the trouble to email us occasionally to let us know what sort of homework the children need to complete, and I notice that she always leaves very encouraging comments peppered with smilies on the papers she has marked.Hi kiasimi,

No news is indeed good news, so I guess you need not worry too much
Also, nowadays all the teachers can be reached through email, so I guess we know a way to reach them if needed

kabalevsky, absolutely agree. a good teacher is all so important to a young child. Kids look forward to school when they have a teacher who makes lessons interesting and fun, and we parents don't even need to motivate them in such cases. -
ya kiasimi, indeed!
hope our kids all get great teachers!
and yes, it is really nice that the teacher gave out his email to us parents in a letter at the beginning of the year. since then, it is our most frequent mode of communication, although the PTM is also really good for more in depth updates. I also have his hp no but i try not to use it because I think the teachers are busy enough! Anyway, email is enough.
my ds1 is also in neighbourhood school. my mil visited before, said it looks lousy compared to elite school, lol. but my son loves going to school everyday, plus it is so near. so we are very happy and satisfied too, donβt care lah. -
Hi all,
Really important to have good teachers.. ..
My DS had a 'weird' transferred teacher for the first half of this year..
parents complained so hard till Principal 'bopian' change one..
Was really glad ..
