My son truely enjoys his time at SJI. Most of the teachers are good and genuinely concern about the boys. I can really feel their sincerity and concern everytime I meet them. The assistant Principal who handles moral education, Mr Ang is truely a wonderful guy so cares for the boys’ overall well-being.

The problem seems to be with the school management, the principal in particular. I understand that he was brought in to start the IP. Maybe because that is his KPI, he is willing to sacrifice everything for this one objective. This seems to contravene the whole motto of SJI and the Christian Brothers’ School. In fact, I was one of the parent that the parent support group invited to have a dialogue with the OBA/committee before the IP was approved and I frankly support it for the good of the school. Without IP, they are losing the top boys from their affiliated primary schools to other IP schools. I was one of those who truely and sincerely supported a dual track for boys of different abilities, even though my boy was already in Sec 1 and will not benefit from the IP. The OBA/committee had promised that they will not neglext the non-IP track, but now in reality it does not seem so. Maybe the problem in the execution or rather the executor.

Even the boys feel that all that matters to the school now is IP and I understand some teachers are very unhappy with this attitute too. Perhaps we all feel a littled betrayed by the Principal. This principal is not one who communicates with parents. They are moving to a holding school, but he refuses to divulge where the holding school will be. Rumour says ITE West. Maybe he is worried that if that is announced before this PSLE posting execise, intake this year will be affected. Frankly, I hope this principal doesn’t stay long, otherwise, the moral values of SJI may slowly be eroded.[/quote]

Ds has dsa co from sji and another ip sch.however we have our hearts set at sji because of its christian brothers education which we believe is better in terms of character moulding.being a parent fr sji is there any adv from you.

Despite all my complaints and unhappiness with the principal, I must admit that it is a gd school with good moral education. Most importantly, my son is very happy there and I know of other parents who have very happy boys too.

But I need to confess that I have a second son who just got a CO from NJC. We did not apply to SJI. My reason? Through Train. Seeing my older boy having to work hard to pick subjects he is interested in for O levels, then having to work really hard for the next 2 yrs to get a good grade so that he can get to a JC, I really don't want my second to have to go through it if he can. After checking the cut off marks for JCs and friends with kids who have gone through the O level track, my personal conclusion is that the O level track seems to be a streaming by MOE and is to prepare kids for Poly. To go to a JC, the kids need to strive for an A2 average for L1B5 and aim to achieve 4 bonus points through CCA etc. Thus getting to a JC after O level is very tough, and i am not talking about the top JCs, just an average one.

This is just a personal view and I may be wrong.

Does anyone have any idea how the alternative asst marks are added, if they are added, to the final score of a subject? I realised that ds has been doing quite a bit of AAs, but I do not see the marks reflected in his report book. Thanks

Not only that, the school has also slipped to Band 2 this year!

That is why they are so set on the IP programme. They think they are not getting the best students, and so are not producing the best O level results. In fact, they are willing to sacrifice everything for IP. My son told me that his literature teacher did not come to class for one week before the term 3 tests because she had to prepare for the Literature IP syllabus. They had a replacement teacher for literature that week instead!!

they are still value adding, hence they are awarded the sustained academic value added award in comparison to some of the other band 1 and 2 schools, also their cut off for affiliation for the 2010 O Level cohort is 230.
