šŸ˜„ Actually, UNSW is just one of the many academic competitions available to primary school students, but it is the most common. You can take part in other competitions such NMOS, SPSO, SMOPS, RMSO, RI WorldMath, Spelling Bee, Little Professor etc etc.

I mean, it all depends on your child. A child only has so much time, so choose your battles wisely lor. šŸ˜„

wow, 3 days off.. that's really nice as the kids certainly deserve it.. so your DS will spend one day eating, one day sleeping, one day playing? :rotflmao: šŸ˜‰ šŸ•ŗ

Hi firefly,
šŸ˜† :rotflmao: Love that sense of humour of yours...keke

Yes, told DD she can do anything she wants after PSLE.... :boogie:

Just curious, do any of your mainstreamer DD/DS have Social Studies exams after PSLE?

Hi Leanne,

I think it's a good idea that your DS's sch place weightage on SA1 and the prelim...keke...I'm biased la...cos DD did better in SA1 than her prelims and her SA1 results are not taken into consideration.

Yes...getting the Edusave scholarship would be nice ....hopefully our kids are still eligible this yr... :xedfingers: Would be a nice reward for their efforts. :rahrah:

I am also biase, ds did slightly better in prelim, so 30 percent in sa1 may pull down a little bit.Anyway, still the psle that counts.

Yes, 400 dollar is a good bonus for the kid.Last year, ds talked so much about it, this year totally unheard.Dont know why, maybe its the psle stress.

Cheers,
Leanne

Hi Leanne,
Very true....ultimately it's PSLE that counts. I'm sure your DS will still do very well overall even with the 30% weightage in SA1. šŸ˜‚

Maybe last year, the Edusave Scholarship was something new for your DS so he was more excited. I'm sure he'll be enthusiastic once he receives the letter this year. šŸ•ŗ

My dd took all three UNSW in her PSLE year. Why not? There's no need to study nor revise for UNSW. You just show up and sit for the test. And if you do well, it's a boost for self-esteem and good for the portfolio.

Hi jtoh,

You're right especially when the principal present the award to those had scored High Destination and Destination in Science.

They get very motivated and put even more effort on the subject.

Hi Brenda10, I think your spellcheck is too enthusiastic. It should be High Distinction and Distinction, not 'destination'. šŸ˜„

Hi Belle,

Edusave only based on the school results right?

So, its chong for the EEIS for psle...

Cheers,
Leanne
Hi Leanne,
Yes, Edusave Scholarship is based on year end overall results.

Eligibility for EESIS is based on PSLE T-score and is only applicable to independent sec schools. šŸ˜‰

Hi Brenda,

I know what you mean....when the sch only takes prelim results into consideration, it does make a difference in the student's ranking. Maybe the sch wants it to be more reflective of PSLE standards......Results based on 1 set of exams....no second chances. :skeptical:

Wow...this boy is superb!! Full marks for CL compo & close to perfect score for CL paper2.....definitely not an easy feat. How I envy....

Hi Tinkerbelle,

Think the school want to deliver the message to the children that this will be like the actual PSLE!

Yalor. How nice to get such the perfect score!

Anyway, her CL teacher is very hardworking now and the class get to do the ē†č§£é—®é¢˜ daily in the class and also rewrite some of the old compo. at home for her to mark! :salute:

Hi Brenda,
True...I agree with you that the sch is psyching the kids up for PSLE with the 100% weightage for prelims.

Wow...your DD is so lucky that her CL teacher is so committed. It's great that she's going thru ē†č§£é—®é¢˜ & doing compo with the class. DD's CL teacher is very quiet...not much action leh.... :skeptical:

Yes...cheong for $400 for your DD/DS year-end bonus :rahrah:
Then.... cheong for EESIS for secondary sch.....$2400 annually for independent schs....

Hi Tinkerbelle,

Yes, DD confirm can get her year-end bonus this year after teacher announce their ranking.

As for EESIS, it will be very sweet and lucky if our DD/DS can get it! :please:

:congrats: Brenda & DD on her Edusave Scholarship. :imcool:
A well-deserved reward for your DD. :moneyflies:
My Gal Just Brought Back her Report Book Today.

Yeah her sch is the Same as both of your Gals', 100% on Prelim, SA1 not taken into consideration.

Hi Funx3,

Thank you for sharing.

This will be good for those who do better in prelim than SA1!

Think the school is deliverd the message to the children that PSLE is another chance if you work hard!

Unfortunately for My Gal, She Does Better at SA1 than Prelim.
But I Told Her As Long as She Does Well in PSLE, the Prelim Does Not Matter. šŸ˜‰ šŸ˜‰
Hi Funx3,
:hi5: DD also did better in SA1 than her prelim but not to worry, the most important one is still PSLE....Jia you!! :rahrah:
- A little off topic - but could I just check generally if your kids took the UNSW exams this year? Just trying to have a feel of whether kids continued to do so or decided against to focus on PSLE revision. TIA.

My dd took all three UNSW in her PSLE year. Why not? There's no need to study nor revise for UNSW. You just show up and sit for the test. And if you do well, it's a boost for self-esteem and good for the portfolio.

Thanks for the parents who replied my query.
This just one mother's brain working overtime - this year so far my son has got his best results for UNSW so far (with exception of Maths which is not out) - previous years all patchy (only subject he consistently did well was computer skills). So as consistency has always been a issue with my son - I was hoping it would reflect that he has finally decided to be serious for his PSLE year. But there was a nagging doubt if the reason why he was in the top 5% for Science and English - was because the top did not participate - so to speak. Hence the question.

Any way - I am quite proud of his achievement this year - and praying hard he can continue this renewed focus into PSLE - so that he can get the just reward for the hard work he has put.
Hi vidhyalog,
:congrats: on your DS's achievements in UNSW exams. You must be very proud of him. :celebrate:
