Hi mommies
I am not sure where to post this question as it pertains to Chinese New Year!
My girl is entering P1 next year and usually around CNY we travel back to Penang where my MIL and husband’s family lives. Of cos, in kindy we can take like 4 or 5 days off but as for P1, do schools allow more than the standard 2 days break?
I know, I vely KS, as CNY is far away but I am been meaning to ask this so I ask lor : )
Any advice? -
micolh, Peter and Jane is a good series to prepare for P1. I am trying to expose my K2 girl to as many words and sentence structures as much as possible. Since she likes fairy tales, I get her to read out loud a book which contains a collection of fairy tales. There are many words she doesn’t know, but as she goes through them word by word, she is learning new ones and ways of using them everyday.
As for Maths, I bought a Maths assessment book and teach her some basic concepts…
Did you mention that your dd is 4 years old? There is still plenty of time left, so can take it slow and easy… I am also teaching my 4 yr old dd to read using Peter and Jane and Ji Chu Han Zi 500. -

for us, we travelled overseas during the CNY period as well, for abt a week so i was worried what to do with next yr; hw are our arrangements gg to be like...
my cousin's suggestions to us - this what what she did too when her kids were in P1.. and for two consecutive yrs since her DS, followed by her DD ..
CNY 2012 falls on a mon & tues, with sun as the eve, so what u can do ( or try to do) is to take sch leave for 3 days - wed, thurs & fri.
i know i know, u parents are gonna :pokeeye: for bringing up this kind of suggestion.
but i guessed since sch term starts nt too long ago, the kids will not missed out much.
a check with DH whose the kind of ' no means no ' type, finds this suggestion visible too. he agreed on the part whereby a child wldnt miss out too much since its only abt 2 weeks of lessons from 03 Jan
but comes P2, better nt do this anymore. -

I don't think it will be a problem as long as you let the teacher know in advance. As it is so early in the year there probably won't even be any work to catch up on.Hi mommies

My daughter missed a week in July as my brother got married overseas; her teacher gave her some work to do but told her not to do it while she was away, just to catch up when she came up. She also had to do the spelling test and ting xie that she missed. -
Thanks poppy15 and nms1 for your input. I feel better knowing we can 'pong tang' school for a couple of days.

Parents, do try to enjoy your holidays while kids are in kindy. Come primary school, it’s not very advisable to take off unless necessary. My hubby is also the ‘no means no’ type. Last year, I got son to ‘pong tang’ 2 days b4 SA2 as we couldnt finish revision. Had to keep quiet about it.
Btw, this year’s Bookfest will be around mid nov instead. Happened to see the info on popular van this morn. -
Hi all,
am looking at mind stretcher topics… and want to find out which are the better outlets in north area as i am deciding between mind stretcher and concept maths for my child. But concept maths is more expensive than mind stretcher.
Also looking at english classes in mind stretcher. Currently, my child is in i can read program. Thinking of switching him to another school. How is mind stretcher in their program for English? -
