Hi,Hi Blue March, QMS,
I'm also keen to find out how we can train our kids on Chinese comprehension. My dd's problem is that there are far too many words which she can't read. I've told her to make \"intelligent\" guesses, but so far, it has not worked!
Hi Blue March,
My DD told me that her form teacher was very upset with the class because the unit review results were not good.
I saw the paper and her marks got pulled down because of the last question. She's really poor at synthesis and transformation
How do i help her? :frustrated:
My dd used to 'copy & paste' the answer from the passage without digesting it
i believe the key is to understand the passage fully.
here are some points I've noted:
Q) ไธบไปไนใใใใใ
Ans)
Follow some of the key words from the question to answer in complete sentences. Just my 2 cents worth..
Hi preggie,
Your dd's form teacher is a relatively experienced teacher. I believe she must have prepared the class quite well for this unit review that's why she has expectations. Imagine my dd's class had a change of 2 relief teachers for term 3 and her FT just came back 1st Sep, just on time for SA2 preparation!

Hi Titank,
I'm still mulling over which CCA my DD should take up. She'll like to do horse riding but i feel it's impractical.
I feel the school has very limited CCAs to choose from.
Same I do feel that the ECA in RMPS are quite limited choice, hopefully can select the ECA where do not require stay extra day. I mean just fall on Friday will do.
Same, DS also weak in ็่งฃ้ฎ็ญ, if answered wrongly can straight get zero marks -
Hi,
Am new here. My DS is in P5 this year. Hope to participate actively in discussions and provide constructive feedback -

Ha ha! Now that we are on this topic, and you are here, would you be able to kindly advise how we can help our children improve on their comprehension? :please: -
preggie:
Maybe it's a case of lowest quote?
Or, a case of complacency (or rather, laziness?)? I understand that the school has been using Acropolis since aeons ago. If they didn't receive any feedback (or, didn't bother to receive feedback) from parents, they wouldn't know how good of bad Acropolis is, right? So, why rock the boat?

Hi All,
Did your child bring home the UNSW ICAS test report yesterday? I received the english report but not math.
I think the report is rather comprehensive. It identifies the areas where the child needs improvement in. Quite insightful

Hi,
I think my answer to the question on improving comprehension probably looks like the stock answer for a question like this
1) They must read widely
2) Get them to read short stories with dialogue included as many comprehension passages are narratives
3) When they get to P4, they should start reading expository style passages that can be found in The Little Red Dot and National Geographic (Kids) as this will also help with cloze passages. -

Thanks for your value input. I do agree with you must read alot.
I started to train my kid in this way for his comprehension. Instead of giving him whole long passage, i did it with him in a short passage to test his understanding. It work pretty well. -
