This is the 2009 PSLE Math Q, the Jim and Ken's Q.

My daughter's school is clearing the PSLE 2006-2010 book NOW........... but still do not know how to do this Q. Please HELP.

Jim bought some chocolates and gave half of them to Ken. Ken bought some sweets and gave half of them to Jim.

Jim ate 12 sweets and Ken ate 18 chocolates. After that, the number of sweet and chocolates Jim had were in the ratio 1:7 and the number of sweets and chocolates Ken had were in the ratio 1:4.

How many sweets did Ken buy?
      Hi

A similar type of question was discussed on page 300.
      http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=280&start=2990

Keane bought some marbles and gave half of them to Leon. Leon bought some stamps and gave half of them to Keane.
Keane used 5 stamps and Leon gave away 11 marbles. The ratio of the number of stamps to the number of marbles Keane had left then became 1:7 and ratio of the number of stamps to the number of marbles Leon had left became 1:5
How many stamps did Leon buy ?

Another similar type of question for more practice.

Michael bought some apples and gave half of them to Jackson.
Jackson bought some pears and gave half of them to Michael.
Micheael threw away 25 pears that were rotten while Jackson bought for himself another 20 apples.
After that, the number of pears to apples Michael had were in the ratio of 1:4 and the number of pears to apples Jackson had were in the ratio of 1:2.
How many pears did Jackson buy?

      Best wishes

How to do this Q…I just cannot figure out SPEED Q.

Mei and Lin took part in a cycling race. Mei cycled at a speed of 20km/h. Both of them did not change their speed throughout the race. When Lin reached 1/2 the distance, Mei was 3.5km in front of her. Mei reached the finishing line at 10.45am. What time did Lin reach the finishing line?

                HI

Draw a simple diagram to show the relationships between cyclists.

When Lin completed half the race, Mei was 3.5 km ahead of here.

When Lin completed the race, Mei would be 7km (2*3.5) over the finishing line if she didn’t stop.

                7/20*60 ------ 21 min

                21 min from 10.45am ------- 11.06am

                Best wishes
