      Hi mummies,

I tried to teach her my daughter once and that's it...I hit the roof bcos I couldn't explain to her... :slapshead: simply beyond me. When to add or subtract. Her teacher started models and homework this weekend was on 'Money'. I couldn't wait to :siam:

Bought this title by Fabian Ng 'excel in math'...recommended by mummies here. Not bad but doesn't have all topics found in daughter's textbook.

I also want to :siam: Money. Once reached five cents I want to cry. I asked her forty cents and five cents how much, she replied ninety cents.

Her kindy taught money and I bought a book about money but dare not use it becos there's five cents and one dollar exercise in it. DD1 managed to dig it out of the drawer and ask me to do it with her. That's when I :faint: over the five cents :faint: :faint: :faint:

I could be wrong...sorry if I made a mistake. I remember one of my P1 assessment does not have the topic on Mass. Will revise models since her teacher has already started teaching.

Is there a good way to teach subtraction to a P1 child. I have used sweets and fruit, so I have said you have 2 apples and want seven how many more to you need. He adds them up all time. Does anyone know a better way. PS, I do show him the seets and fruit so he can connect with it, but seems unable to grasp the concepts of diffrences - and using subtraction to work out these differences.

U are asking in the context of problem sums dealing with subtraction?

                      Hi SAHM_TAN

I am struggling to get him to do somethinglike 2+ [] = 5. So I use fruit, marbles or toys. Just need to know what other parents do to teach subtraction.

My kid is still in kindy. In the beginning will use concrete way to show what is subtraction. Later then write it out. I just use striaghtforward
4 - 2 . I think when a child see addition sign, some child might just add not understanding that must use 5 - 2. Or u want to use number bonds to explain the relationship?
