If I am not wrong, the answer is 44. Like he said, the model method is really confusing. Ratio and algebra is the fastest way to do.
The model methoid is a pain. just use ratio and basic algebra and there u hv it. I was in P6 last year and i solved that question in 4 minutes munching on popcorn. Most of my friends cud do it too. dun understand the fuss over the question :roll:MOE Hater:
Who in P6 this year can solve this 2009 PSLE Maths (5 marks) question? (*Page 72, Q16 in the new PSLE Maths 5 year series.)
Jim bought some chocolates and gave half of it to Ken. Ken bought some sweets and gave half of it to Jim. Jim ate 12 sweets and Ken ate 18 chocolates. The ratio of Jim's sweets to chocolates became 1 : 7 and the ratio of Ken's sweets to chocolates became 1:4. How many sweets did Ken buy?. (PSLE 2009, 5 marks)

Hi Flowermonster & All who share about Mind Champs,
I sent my DS to Mind Champs before. Dont find it worth the money. I think parents should go learn how to motivate their kids then it will be more effective. The positive mindset & techniques learned from these centre will last around 3 to 6 mths or earlier depending on individual kid.Superbugs:
My DD1 will be taking her PSLE next year too! Dragon year, went through ballot exercise 6 years ago to get her into a neighbourhood school. Next year, come PSLE! My DD1 didn't do well in her CA2 recently and I am very worried for her! She is currently having group tuition in a CC for all subjects except Science and taking her Chinese tuition at 天äø, yet her results are poor. For Chinese, she is very weak in ēč§£é®ē, for English, she is weak in her close passage and comprehension, for science, she is weak in paper 2. I was thinking of getting her 1-1 tuition starting this school holidays. Anyone care to share of any good tutors who are willing to teach in Choa Chu Kang area?
Also, anyone attend Mind Champs, Mind Edge or Adam Khoo workshops and sign up for their kids? Care to share more?
Thanks for sharing about your experience.. as I almost sign up my son for the course...
Hi Superbugs,
My boy is currently attending English creative writing in Lewin Education at Yew Tee CC and Chinese creative writing with Growing up at opposite Limbang market which I think both equally good. I personally find that Creative Writing regardless for English or Chinese it must practise weekly basis in order for them to explore different topic and when exam time the chance of lack of story line and good phases to use is slimmer.
Chinese is with one of the home tutor (somewhere at Lot 1 area) in a group size of 6~8 also not bad but quite a bit of homework. For his English, Math & Science is home tutor at Bukit Gombak but the class is full.
I sent my son for tuition is due to I believe consistency work is very important which I can't impose it by myself without tuition. :slapshead: -

Hi jtparent, you mistaken Liao lah. My DS don't check meaning also, I tried to force him but no use. I can't possibly sit with him every time he reads & ensure he check. When i see him reading, i will remind him to check if encounter new word and don't just play guess the meaning game. what to do, he just don't have the discipline to do so, sigh.
Good ur ds read story book... & will find the meaning. myread but dont find meaning.. haiz... how TLL coaching. need to take pre entry test 1st is it. heard tat fees not cheap too....
need to really push him hard... as this year is very the imp ya...he dont like to attend any extra lesson as complain hw cant finished... really poor thing. however seeing the results , damn worry.... but m afraid if ask him to go extra classes will backfire.... :? really dont know what to do.....
do u or any parents experience these too.....
pls share...
My DS attended TLL less than 2 mths so not sure if it's good for him. No, he did not go for entry test, just submitted his result slip and after a while they called us up. I am worry about his compo too especially Chinese compo. For Chinese compo, will get him to write more & try to remember 儽čÆ儽å„. No choice as time is running out. If your DS is really no good in compo, I think it's good for him to go for compo enrichment class. My son is not only weak in compo, he is also weak in comprehension!

Here is what I did for compo since end-P4 http://petunialee.blogspot.com/2011/09/reaching-tipping-point-for-chinese-part.html
Of course, if I had started working with him in P1, things would have been gentler and less painful. But we had only two years from end-P4 to prepare him for PSLE. Also, I am handicapped because I can't read Chinese.
I am trying one technique for compre but dunno if it works until SA2 is over and we see his results. If it works, I will blog about it and post here. -
Hi , Iām new here. My DS is having the same problem. Compo and Compre. For both languages. Any tips?

yah loh..... i came to this forum too late too.Herbie:
although psle is one year from now. P5 kids shld try to do well for p5 too so tat they can secure a CO at p6 dsa.
This is a very informative forum and the parents here (kiasu or not) are all very helpful.
I came to this forum \"too late\" - July this year; if I had known earlier, would have better prepared my DS for DSA. For instance, was not aware that his primary school sending him to participate in the various Math Olympiads helps to some extend in DSA until I submit his particulars for DSA.
My dd \"pass\" all competitions. I say ok loh. You like you take part, if you dont want just forget it
I realise how important it is to put in the CV when dd apply DSA :slapshead:

What is the definition of 'passing PSLE' though?
Otah:
I attended Mindchamp preview. The course is very expensive.
I overheard one grandma who spent $8000 for the grandson to attend that mindchamp gives money back warranty for the kids to past PSLE, and she feel like buying an insurance for her grandson.
\"C\" is a pass :? 4 Cs may only achieve an aggregate of 180
