Please help to explain:

1) Is it acceptable to write "recognised" instead of "recognized"?
2) Please ________ your work to the leader.

Dear ms_lim,

Thks for your help. Have you done the 2011 P6 Prelim English from Nanyang Pri Sch? I have posted my younger sister's suggested answers in another post so that those kind souls like you can help to verify her answers.

As for your latest query, I think both of them are acceptable for Q1. Q2 should be \"hand in\" which is a phrasal verb to express an action where you want to give something to someone in authority.

Let's wait for Teacher ridcully's explanation.
šŸ˜„

Thank you teacher Ridcully. Yes after PSLE, my daughter and I are going to continue to buck up on our English.

ridcully:
chrisu:

This is from the 2010 SA2 Hokkien Huay Kuan Combined Sch English paper;
Q7. Last night, we watched Jennifer ____________ at the Victoria Concert Hall.
(1) sing
(2) sang
(3) sung
(4) sings

My daughter is wondering why the book answer is (1) sing? Her answer is (2) sang.
Thank you.

Verb of perception + object + base form/gerund format again.

English has finite and non-finite verbs. Your daughter's homework after the PSLE is to swot up on these.

vidhyalog:
ridcully:
66. Sarah does not want to study medicine as much as she does law.

________ prefers ____________.

Sarah prefers to study law to medicine.

Sarah prefers to study medicine to law.

Please advise if any of the answers is correct..

TIA.

Both are wrong as they ignore parallelism, that is you should have the same grammatical units. In both answers, 'prefers' is followed by infinitive+noun whereas 'to' is followed by a noun.

Should be:
Sarah prefers law to medicine.
Sarah prefers to study law rather than to study medicine.

Rgds
R

Would \"Sarah prefers studying law to medicine\" be an acceptable answer?
This still ignores parallelism. Furthermore, we normally state different activities:

Teacher Ridcully prefers reading books to watching television.

Teacher Ridcully prefers listening to speaking.

Teacher Ridcully prefers studying to playing.

Rgds
