Oh, no no my son joined the heuristics maths program so no chess is involved. They have 2 programs there (I think). One is the heuristics maths program (purely maths) and the other one is math & chess program (enrichment program involving chess). Don't know much about the math & chess program. I only read through their booklets there while waiting for my son to finish his lesson. Also heard that they are holding their program in some primary schools. Seems interesting but since my son is Pri 6 this year so thought should let him focus on purely maths first. Maybe you can give them a call to ask?

Maybe you can check with the fellow parents over there?

[/quote]hello! my boy's teacher is mr wu. saw his testimonial before and its very impressive. like win awards and got scholarships all that one. but main thing is the way he teaches is rather different. like he teaches not only academic stuff but also about life skills in general. which i think is good cos schools nowadays seem to be all about results. u're interested to let your child join too? 😉

hi! my boy is in the kinder level and i pay $360/term. one term got 10 lessons. i think if your boy has chess lessons before then maybe he can skip to beginner or advanced level? i know they have a few levels but cos my boy has no prior chess knowledge so he got to start from the fundamentals first. as for the age, i'm not too sure also. maybe till upper pri level? i saw p5/6 students before but not sure what's the age limit for them.

Chess is a complicated game and as such requires specialised training. Those who are good in Math may not be good in chess but those who are good in Chess are ALL good in Math.

For International Chess lessons, there are a few places to learn. Do check the instructors background before spending your hard earn $$$.

The best way is to check the instructors' FIDE rating. For comparison, some local teenagers' rating is 2000 and above. If the 'instructors' ratings are below that, they can't be too qualified to teach chess professionally.

For those who are serious about chess, SCF is a good place to start. Those who habour ambitions their children to be champions may want to consider PowerChess Asia Pte Ltd http://www.powerchess.org (tel 9003 9113). Their instructors' rating is 2500

My friend sends his kids to learn chess there and they have been winning trophies. Apparently many of the top local junior players (those representing their schools and Singapore) learn chess there.
