I’m confused with what followed after ‘between’, should it be ‘to’ or ‘and’?

              Q. The Sunshine Nursery takes in children aged between one _______ four.
              (1) or
              (2) to
              (3) and
              (4) until

              Given answer is (3) and.
I thought since there is a range from one to four years old, why cannot use ‘to’? Thank you.

chrisu, \"between\" is used with \"and\". We had some old discussions :

                Hi,

May know for \"between\", should it be followed by a \"and\" or a \"to\" ?

E.g. NCPG Will automatically ban between 25,000 ______ 29,000 undischarged bankrupts.

                Is it \"and\" or \"to\" ??

                Thanks!

2)Conservationists estimate that between 2000 ____ 3000 remain in the wild.
Answer given was \"and\", \"to\" is not acceptable. Can anyone explain this too?
Q2. Ans is \"and\". Common prepositional usage. Certain words go with certain prepositions. For most purposes, you simply have to accept collocation.

                Rgds
                R

elkniwt, based on the earlier discussions, answer to your question is \"and\".[/quote]

It seems that this year’s "king maker" is going to be in the Paper 2 rather than paper 1. Quite a change from previous years…

                      S&T :

Q: In order to impress Susan, Nick bought a tuxedo.

A1 : Nick wanted to impress Susan so he bought a tuxedo.
A2 : Nick bought a tuxedo so as to impress Susan
                      .

It looks to me both A1 and A2 acceptable ? Is there a preferance ?

Q: We have to come up with new strategies for our plan. Our plan has failed.

A1: Our plan failed so we have to come up with new strategies for it.
A2: Our plan has failed so we have to come up with new strategies for it.

Is A1 acceptable ? Is it important to include the 'has' which is in the question?
