Fat Mama:
Fat mamaAugmum,
Does ur enrol in those enrichment prog for sci, maths, geog, hist, moot parliament etc?
No, no enrichment prog or tuition for all subj.
she is totally on her own now.......
unlike in primary sch where i would do revisions with her. -
Fat Mama:
agree....there is both positive and negative being in a competitive environment.Yes his teachers would also do the same.
He is bochap so he only knows how he fared.
Well, its good and bad. Not much stress that way.Fat Mama:
initially (in yr 1) she also dislikes history, but in yr 2 ,He taking geog as he hates history.
she starts to like it becos she scored better in history.Fat Mama:
oh...already answered in previous posting. So what subj combi yr DD taking?
-
Augmum,
You misunderstood my qn.
These enrichment lessons are organised by DHS.
Does she enroll in these extra enrichment? -
Fat Mama:
Yes she still does.....if next day needs to go to school then she will sleep slightly earlier....otherwise no time limit for her......dd does not take 3rd language 'cos I discouraged her after listening to the principal that most of the pupils would drop due to inadequate time to study, too stressful or losing interest......about 20% of pupils managed to 'endure' till the end.........by the way, I thought 3rd language starts in year 1 right? can start in year 3?????Bedokid,
Yr DD studies till 1-3am? Wow, its quite scary!! Does she take 3rd lang?
DS intends to take 3 sci plus French. Now I am having 2nd thoughts, dont think he can manage if he cant stay up late.
Taking 3 sci in year 3 is quite tiring, not easy but it's good that our kids are working hard themselves rather than us chasing after them everyday...................realise that most students in these top schools tend to be kiasu a bit.....hahahaha :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: -
Bedokid
DS took French from yr 1. What I meant was he will cont to take French in yr 3. But I am not very sure if I shd encourage him to cont.
With 3 Sci, 3rd lang and 2 CCA, not very sure if he can manage!!! -
So many of them have suffered in dhs due to poor adaptation to the intense character focussed education. No wonder the 270s all dropped tp the bottom. The chinese standard is super. Unless u are bilingual don’t dream of doing well or even entering dhs. But if u are among the bests, u will thrive. And many politicians are looking at the dhs character focus platform as the future of Singapore education. As some of you know, their school was the only school that were invited to perform for retiring minister mentor lee Kuan yew a few months back at the parliament. All ministers were present.

Ultimateschooler,
What is intense character focussed education? -
Fat Mama:
Frankly speaking, some kids are brighter than others, they may not be studying all the times but still managed to get good results......for my dd she needs to work hard then she can get good result........just let your boy makes his choice so as not to regret later on......of course it's too early to tell whether he can cope well or not due to higher level next year( alot of other factors will affect his schedule too)......but if he is able to manage why not?????in case he finds it too stressful then maybe drop one CCA first......see how it goes next year....no point gets worry now........can see that u are more stressed than him(just joking)....Bedokid

Of course he makes his own decision so that he cant blame me in future
I am not stressed. Just that I dont want him to be stressed up. I would prefer him to enjoy his schooling days as much as possible and not study all the time.
Its really quite meaningless if our kids have to study all the time. :gloomy: -
