2 days ago, newspaper reported that $17M given out to 51,000 companies for employing (167,000) elderly low wage workers....

      that's $333/ company....or $100/worker.

Doesn't look like much of an enticement for coy, ya?
How much more of your tax money, or those of future generations (your kids'), do you wish to contribute, to make this sum even higher?

        Oppsgal:

That's pretty sad case. That's why when go to public toilet, usually the cleaners are from other countries?

Is also sad that locals still have to work until old here. want to retire, but cannot afford. If given a choice (with enough savings), would old aged locals want to continue work until unable to work anymore? Or they would rather spent time at coffee shop drink kopi and chat with friends?
        What's your solution?

hmmm....I haven't figure that out yet!
but it's a matter of reallocating the budget, ya?

anyway, my pt is that the papers made it looked like alot of $$$ when the amt is really not very enticing for coy to go for older local workers.

Will it be fair to say that given more transparency, more ideas and more creative solutions would emerge from the people?

Will it be fair to say that bulk of the tax payers’ money has gone to feed the government who is now asking the people for alternative solutions?

How much 'bulk' of our taxpayer's money has gone to feed our government? Will paying the government less make our problems less acute? If you sack all the ministers and MPs tomorrow, how much money do you save and how much does that work out per person?

Everything comes at a cost, you can't look at the front end of a problem and propose a solution without understanding what it will cost you at the back end, or we will just end up like Greece.

And who should decide the re-allocation of the budget?

What if I disagree with how you would do it, who has the right to be the tie-breaker?

Are we as individuals, willing to pick up a bigger tax bill to support broader social programs?

                  u r right!!

my initial pt was not about increasing the amt, but rather r we kidding ourselves by thinking that employers are enticed by that amt.

No need to remove any ministers.. just remove the CEO of TH and we would have saved billions....

                      Really?

Who would you have replaced her with and how different would the decisions have been?

I think its easy to be an armchair investor, with 20:20 hindsight.

Might as well do away with TH altogether..

                        No RISKY investment.. no losses..

Overall, didn't TH do more harm than good?

No transparency, no accountability, don't want better..
