Hi I’m new here, my DS is Nov2007 till now his ABC still don’t kn. It’s look like can’t memorize keep forget when I teach no matter how I teach can’t go into his brain. But for三字经 he can memorize 5 pages. Does anyone have this problem?

Does he know his phonics? I think phonics is more important then memorising the ABC squence now. The ABC sequence is only needed when checking for words in the dict, and some squencing exercises that can be skipped if he does not know the squence yet. Phonics will help him to learn how to read. JMHO.
Do u speak Mandarin at home?
Does he go to CC / kindy?
We speak Mandarin at home. When DS went to kindy, he knows all the single letter sound within 2-3 terms.
I did not teach him the ABC sequence but he learnt it by watching alphabet song on DVD. -

He’s attending at the pcf but till now didn’t see any difference. I taught after learning all the alphabet than let him go for phonics. We speak Chinese at home, at his class quite a few also don kn the alphabet but some is already start reading. I will try introduce him the phonics on the way.

When did your DS join PCF? Does your PCF include phonics in the curriculum?
We speak Mandarin at home, so when DS went to kindy, it took him awhile to adapt to an English speaking environment and to learn a new language. It took him longer to learn phonics, about 2-3 terms. Now he is able to read Peter and Jane series bk 1A.
Just like when I bought English books to read to DD1, she did not enjoy it in the beginning and I thought she was not ready. Then I started to think maybe it's becos we spoke Mandarin at home. I started to buy Chinese storybooks and read to her and she was very interested and would ask me to read to her. When she went to CC, she picked up English very quickly and adapted to the environment faster than her brother. When I stopped working, she attended kindy.
To learn a language, a child need to listen, speak it, read it and then write it.
For DD2, she's very shy and would probably take longer to adapt, so for her, I will need to speak to her in English when she's 2 to prepare her for kindy.
Here's a link of one of the KSP's member that u might find useful http://tamarindphonics.blogspot.com/
She shares her experiences on how to teach her kids to read at home. -

To learn phonics, it start off with single letter sounds. When the kid knows the single letter sound very well, the teacher will move on to 3 letters word, teaching the kid how to blend the sound of the letters to pronounce the word and so on.
Besides the blog link in my earlier post, here's a website on the sounds of the letters http://www.starfall.com/ -
Thanks for ur sharing and comments.
