      Hi Jane Lewis

Welcome. Generally we felt MMC does not really emphasize much on MT-Chinese. Our DD’s MT lessons and homework is about 20% or less of all subjects and you can feel MT topics are not treated as impt as English or Maths. Not sure if this is the same feelings as rest of the parents though.

Tinkerbelle, I am so glad to hear that your dd found the paper easy! I have been kaypohing around the PSLE Maths thread, and I found the questions so hard (I guess its because I'm not \"trained\" to think that way back in primary school days) that I was starting to panic though dd is not even in primary school :faint: But since your dd thinks its manageable, I am beginning to think there is hope πŸ•Ί

Worriedparent74, my dd is not even in P1 yet, so I do not know anything about the MT. However, once I heard a Chinese tuition teacher who has an MCS student in P4 comment that though it can't be compared to the SAP schools, the Chinese standard in MCS is not low either. I guess that is some consolation... but now its for us parents to do personal chinese \"immersion programmes\" to push up their individual standards

            HI michyms

Not too sure abt P4 but my P1 DD is not getting enough for MT. So far they have only one comprehension but they will be tested in SA2. I compared with my nephews of same standard in other schools and they are getting more for MT.

                  Hi michyms,

                  Keke...yes, there's hope. :rahrah:

Actually, all of DD's classmates found the papers relatively easy. Guess the sch has prepared them well as they found the PSLE papers easier than their usual MCS exams.

No need to panic, your DD is only starting P1 next yr.....As you learn with her, you'll soon get the hang of it. 'Models' & 'Heuristics' were completely new to me too when DD1 started P2. I had to learn the various methods & strategies to guide her. At first, it may seem 'tough' but you'll soon be a pro. :nunchuk:

Tinkerbelle, thanks, I feel so assured that MCS has done a good job preparing the kids for PSLE Maths. Does your dd also go for tuition classes? I think parents are still the best teachers, even if kids have tuition, so I'll need to study alongside dd. Seems like I'm going back to primary school all over πŸ˜“

                      Hi michyms,

Ya, know what you mean, to be involved in the kid's education, it's like going back to sch all over again.

DD doesn't go for tuition as I can still teach her myself at this stage but think sec sch maths will be too challenging for me next year...haha.

Hopefully, she will be independent enough to learn on her own. :xedfingers: Time for me to focus on DD2 now. πŸ˜‚

Tinkerbelle, wow, I am truly amazed that you can teach your dd for PSLE all by yourself! :udawoman: I hope I can be like you! Are you a teacher by any chance? For a start,I am working on brushing up my Chinese - while teaching my 2 dds at the same time. So that they can't say \"mummy doesn't know\" I'm quite a potato, but I figured that if I don't show any interest in Chinese, I cannot expect my kids to show any interest.

I think at the secondary levels, we probably have to leave them alot more on their own. I can't imagine myself dragging out my physics and chemistry textbooks to coach my dds πŸ˜†

This generation of kids are alot more fortunate. I definitely don't recall getting much of coaching from my parents for PSLE or O levels. And I didn't have any tuition till I was in Sec 3 when I was desperate enough to request for tuition for physics and chemistry.
