      Picolo:
      mama of 2:

Just extend my Indonesia maid contract for another 2years. increase her salary from $340 to $380, pay for her passport renewal fee, Hari Raya and Haji off, Airticket for her home visit for 10days. Not fantastic on house work and cooking but patient and most important is she don't mix around. Think nobody is perfect so decided to keep her for another 2years.

That's quite similar to mine. Renewed my maid's contract for another 2 years in Jun. Adjusted her pay + pay-off compensation from $360 to $390. Paid for passport renewal/WP/insurance (better coverage)/air-tickets for home leave plus gave her Hari Raya time-off and she went back for 15 days' home leave. Bought lots of children clothes for her to bring back to Indon. This is the first time I didn't give the 1-mth variable bonus to my maid after 2-year contract becos her work is just so-so. Could be much better in cooking too etc etc.... but, she is patient with a pleasant personality. Too bad, her horsepower very limited. Would have considered a new maid with experience if not for the hike in new maid's starting salary and agency fee from April this year. Not worth paying more for newer maids who generally are less capable than those who came over years ago. The better ones have gone to HK and Taiwan.

Thank you mama of 2 and picolo for sharing. It helps me to decide how much I should pay my Indonesia maid when she renews her contract with me next year. She is currently getting $370. ๐Ÿ˜„

What happened was, my maid met a new maid washing car at the bay and as usual, chit chatted and asked her her new pay. Heard from the new maid that she is getting $410. It's higher than what I proposed ($390) but, the new maid had to pay her agent 12 month's salaries which worked out to be $4920! Obviously if she was to stay with me, she would be able to save a big sum of money. I paid for all the expenses and so she didn't need to fork out any $$$ to con't another 1 to 2 years with me.

Hi, Picolo, good to know that your maid knows how to do her math. I can't believe that maids now have to pay their agents 12 months of salary. This is something new i learnt today. Mine is about 7-8 months of her pay. ๐Ÿ˜„

I have no idea too! That's what I heard from her. Isn't it shocking that one have to pay 1 year salaries to the agent and if the maid goes back after the 2-yr contract, only get to earn to same amount as what the agent get?!! My maid paid about 8 months'salaries 2 years ago when she came to work for me. I wonder how much other new maids have to pay their agents...

That was why maid agencies band together to fix higher salaries....really blood sucker :stompfeet:

I interviewed my new maid face to face when she was still employed here in SG. The arrangement was she is finishing her contract & go back to Indo for 2 weeks leave & upon coming back, she will join me. She had been working for her employer for 4 yrs in SG - clean record. I thought for her case will be considered as transfer maid but then the agent said no, her loan is 6.5 months & monthly salary $450 with 1 day off. Since I was comfortable with her, I went ahead w the arrangement & paid everything. Later on I checked her passport, it still has 3 yrs validity! I asked the agent what r the fees u forked herโ€ฆ All the agent paid was just an airfare fr Indo - SG & minor documentation fees, & they earnt more than $2500 from her. Poor maid didnt know market rate is only 2 mths fee for her transfer. Well, she got a big jump from $350 to $450 but got to work 6 mths without salary!

And now I am looking for her replacement as she canโ€™t handle my kids. Really disappointing, despite of 4 yrs of experience, so many basic things she doesnโ€™t know & no common sense at all. I told the agent that I need to replace her & until now agent is unable to find her replacement with my requirement but she went to tell her that I am looking for her replacement. As a result, she is even more disinterest in her work. I scolded the agent! No matter what my feedbacks, agent always said but she doesnt think the maid is such kind of person. I asked the agent to counsel the maid so that she can be more attentive & alert in her tasks, as a result she went to tell that I am changing her ๎„

My maid is renewing her contract. I m increasing her pay from $350 to $450. But I m okay with this jump because she is really "experienced". Of course there are things I donโ€™t really like but compared to new maids with starting salary $420 with zero experience, I rather keep this one.
