anyone knows how schools choose students for sec one cca? do they hv to go for trial etc.? must students meet certain standards to be selected?

The schools I know of hold trials and auditions and the best are selected for the CCAs. If you're not selected by any CCA, you'll be 'dumped' into the unpopular ones which still have vacancies. In secondary school, it's the CCA that choose you, not you choosing the CCA. šŸ˜‰

        Wow! So serious aah?

So if u r interested to join say the chess club but do not qualify due to stiff competition, does that mean you can't join the chess club at all? I'm not talking abt school team just the join the CCA? :?

For Science, my DD noted that there are very few questions on the \"popular\"/\"common\" topics. Eg there is no Qn on parts of plant cell. Instead MCQ Qn is on cell as the basic form of life. There is also no Qn on reproduction in animals. Instead Paper B has Qns on dispersal of seeds and squirrel. The adaptation Qn on penguin (black colour / in a group) is also not covered in the guide books.

Seems that Paper B has quite a number of \"unusal\" application Qns - which require students to analyse and answer the Qns in their own words (i.e. memorising won't help).

Though the Science paper is said to be relatively easy, it is probably not (at least for Paper B). Chances are students may have lost marks (incomplete/inaccurate answers) without realising it.

To give an example, in the Qn on leaving plates on rack to dry - if you say the plates have a bigger exposed surface area, you will probably get 1/2 mark only. To get the complete mark, you need to add that the water on the plate will evaporate faster.

Absolutely right. In answering section b, has to be very specific and always linked the answer back to the question. For the question on plates, they also ask for 2 reasons. Other than exposed surface area, do you think this is ok : -

'gravity acting on the water found on the plates causes the water to drip downwards off the plates, hence the plates dry faster'. I hope it's correct.

That sounds like a really good answer - complete and accurate. Most students would have just said that the water will drip down the plates. They think they have gotten full mark but they may not have - it really depends on the marking criteria on the Answer Key. This is the point I am making.

Looks like we are one of the very few not going out to celebrate this week.

DS2’s exam is next week so this weekend also probably just stay at home.
But DS1 is happy enough with his new NDS game, going online on facebook, watching tv etc.

Ds said today paper is easy I can't believe my ears !!!!!!!

If today HMT is easier, it wil be good. Then some may need the 3 marks if get distinction to get to their dream school so as to meet some recognised school that take in HMT grade.

However if easy, they might raise the marks higher for distinction. Probably more than 85 then distinction.

I heard from my sec sch boys tt the CCA group will be setting up \"Booth\" when the kids report to sec sch in late Dec.

They Can Look-See, and Register later into the CCA Grp they interested in. Could be thru internet, could be thru form submission - depends on sch practice.

For Popular CCA, Audition / Trials will be held. šŸ˜‚

Your secondary school boys? You have older sons?

The only school that you can pick and choose CCA is NUSH.
Because the student population is so small.

NJC has a different trial system for CCA.
Again because the student population is small.
